Solved Samsung Series 3 Laptop Problem.

Hi Guys, thanks for accepting me on this forum.
I bought a Samsung Series 3 notebook from a notorious (rip off) high st retailer 6 months ago. Its been unopened in its box until yesterday when I gave it to my wife as a birthday pressie.
Eagerly opening it, we switched it on but all we got was a lighted back screen and a small rectangular dot. It would not boot up.
Have I been an idiot by not using this laptop as soon as I bought it. ie, has the system closed down ?
I havn't contacted the seller yet.. Thought I would check the experts out first.
As you can tell, My knowledge of computers is very limited.

Do you have its receipt?....if so take it back to the shop you bought it from.
Under the sale of goods act you are protected for at least a year from date of purchase, the laptop is unfit for purpose so they can either exchange it or refund your money.

I wish we had something like that here in the states...all we have is the product warranty and then that is subject to their (the companies) warranty guidelines. At the places of purchase, with respect to electronics, most retail chains wont take back the product and make you send directly to the company or they have a 15 return policy (which is crap). Online purchases is a different matter.

Yes, I have all the necessary paperwork and receipts.
Problem is that we are in Portugal now and not planning to return to UK for a while.
So.. do you guys think that I've been sold a pup ? ie, its nothing to do with the fact that I didn't use as soon as I bought it ?... if so I'll phone the retailer.... Just want to get my facts right before I kick off.

Yes again, guess we're lucky in UK regarding consumer law.. Better than most countries.

I wouldn't thinks so since they sit on the shelves or in the stock room for months at a time at the retail stores.

Your biggest promlem is being in Portugal, as the Law & Product Warranty, can go out the window.

Just phoned the retailer.. They are happy to replace it.. Told them I was in Portugal and that I'd have to DHL it back.
My sister could then pick up the replacement. All was fine !
