Solved running - System File Checker (SFC) AND the CBS.log

W8Pro:
after running the SFC, corrupt files were found, but *not repaired (per the CBS.log)
Microsoft article Kb 928228 (written for Vista) states the following command can be run on the CBS.log file to identify the SFC entries and write them to a text file: findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >sfcdetails.txt

QUESTION: I have run the above command from an elevated Command Prompt in W8 with no results; so something is wrong.
Did the author possibly mistype a piece of the command ?? Perhaps [SR] should have been written as {SR} ??
Help will be appreciated so that I can ID files NOT repaired and then try to fix them.

(ps. I have no interest in repairing or replacing my entire W8 installation as a solution for corrupt system files - at this time any way.. :(. Thanks )

Although the Seven Forums has a tutorial on using the SFC, with a more expanded flag? than I have tried, I can't get W8 to analyse the CBS.log and create a file for the results.

In Administrator command prompt type:

Then run sfc /scannow.Things should be fixed.
I have tested this myself & it fixed problems sfc could not fix.

Customers Gateway w/Windows 8 was really slow.I first cleaned the adware from iWin Games, then ran SFC /Scannow to have it stop @ 42% telling me it couldnt repair corrupt files. I did a refresh, did not work. I did a system recovery using the recovery media on the hidden partition, did not work.Apparently the installation was flawed from the beginning?
I was just about to replace system32 files from disk, even had them extracted to desktop per instructions on eightforums.com when i came across your solution.
This worked like a charm. Thanx Medab1, you saved the day and made my customer very happy!

Not really contributing anything here but had to register just to comment. The dism/online/ etc, is PURE GENIUS. Bought a Dell (8>8.1) desktop in September and bafflingly have been having system file corruption routinely; ran multiple sfc/scannow & chkdsk operations, etc, but perpetual problems nonetheless (a bit concerning for a Brand New System!). This solution is brilliant. Thank you sincerely. Great forum, great help. Happy Holidays, everone.

Me too. Gads, a few weeks ago a moth hit my screen in a frenzy. (It's moth time here at 39.1608° N, 119.7539° W.) I put out a candle to distract them so I could watch net TV without having to get up and reset every few minutes - don't know how to disable the touch screen. With wax on it's wing it hit, then hit again so many times and so fast windows began to pop open and bells began to ring. I watched helplessly as somethings began to disappear and then were deleted without recovery. Meta something I think - it was so fast that it was out of my control. Next day ran sfc. Oops, errors! Again and again running sfc to no avail. Now thinking of resetting entire PC (2nd time), found YOU and THIS post! Sooo happy to be a member of Win8Forums just had to THANK you again. Vii

if your Windows Store app on the Start screen does not open the Windows Store, chances are the "configuration data for this product is corrupt."
I tried to fix the corruption of the Store App by running the App troubleshooter, and every suggestion and fix posted on every MS support webpage I could find. I even did one Refresh and then a Repair in Place of the installed OS with no luck on those either. After several days and a total of approximately 14-16 hours, I am about to come to a place where i decide I can live without the Store for another year.....
A while back, folks use to be able to extract data and files from a MS install disk directly to the installed OS to fix corrupted files... Maybe someone here still remembers how..
If you get access to the 'Store' please let me know!
