Solved Run from Startup folder

This is a General question, so here in General Support is where I'm dropping it.
Like, forever, I've run my email program (Windows Mail) at boot up, from a shortcut in the "Startup" Folder.
The program has always come up very quickly when run that way. Till lately......when my email program comes up very slowly or not at all. Then I have to start it from the same shortcut on my desktop. Two other programs, also in the Startup folder, run just fine.
The shortcut works great, but somehow it's not running correctly from the "Startup" folder.
So, is there any other way I can cause a program to run at Boot UP?

Back in DOS days, I'd just put the .exe file in my Autoexec.bat file. But I don't think that Windows even looks at that file. Eh?

Any help or inspiration would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You, and Y'all have a Happy 4th

PS: I have removed everything from my Startup folder except the shortcut to my email program, and still it takes over two minutes for the program to run. When I run the program from a shortcut on my desktop, it opens and runs Immediately!
What's the hangup? Any ideas?

In brief: How can I run a program on boot-up, without putting it in the "Startup" folder?

Getting no answer, I decided to just replace my old Windows 8.1 with the New and Improved version. All's well now!

MS is not the only one in the world that can make improvements to an OS. When MS stops making improvements to an OS, (EOS) there are others that will step up and take over. They may even be in Estonia. Eh?
So they make improvements to an OS and post their "New and Improved" version on the internet, for FREE download. "Generation 2" is one such group.
They may include Bug Fixes, enhanced Driver Pack, Improved Security, etc, etc, etc.

I hope that answers your question. ?
