i also added an exception in windows firewall for inbound tcp and udp on the port to be sure and got the same results.

Hi there
That application has to send back data and it could be your ISP is blocking the INBOUND reply. Try using another port checking service.

Incidentally some ISP's block port 80 (done to stop people from creating open public server systems from domestic computers) so you'll probably need to allow 8080 instead (or as well).

There's no problem in allowing REMOTE access to a home machine - but what ISP's usually want to stop is people running full busy PUBLIC SERVERS with a lot of queries on a home computer. With today's broadband speeds it's quite feasible now in a lot of cases !!).

Cheers

that screenshot just shows port 80 because it resets once you refresh the page, the port im trying to use is 25565. i am trying to run a public server but not a large one, just a small one for a few friends.

just a quick update i have not changed anything requarding outbound ports, i am trying to run a minecraft server and the only port it uses is 25565 from numerous searching ive done online. i do have acces to my router and here are the logs. i may need to try to run the server again because when i did a search for the port number the logs only had one result. also is there a different way to check ports other than online scanners? also needlessto say ive tried this with comodo and windows firewall turned off.

For testing purpose. Why don't you try with regular Windows Firewall instead of Comodo. Third party Firewall is only good for controlling outbound

Hi there

For TESTING it's usually best to turn the entire wretched thing (firewall) OFF.

My experience - especially with my background as an Engineer is to test ONE THING at a time and then gradually add the other pieces --if you test the whole kybosh together it's hard to diagnose the cause of the problem - whether it's the firewall, the router or Windows itself or even the interaction between all 3.

I've seen it so many times where people make several changes AT THE SAME TIME to their system and then whine "It doesn't work - what do I do now" - and of course they haven't taken a backup either !!!.,

Cheers
jimbo

Get rid of Comodo, turn off Windows Firewall, since you are behind a router. Your issue may be that the port is being stealthed by the router, is why it shows closed. If the router has UPnP enabled. It will trigger the port as needed, when queued by the application to open and close the port.

What does the GRC.com Port scan show? Now a lot of ISP's are block any type of P2P & Torrent software, so that it does not steal bandwidth from other uses.

got the response that "THE EQUIPMENT AT THE TARGET IP ADDRESS
DID NOT RESPOND TO OUR UPnP PROBES!" im assuming this means that this router is blocking access to ports on its own without me using any firewall. also i used that guide to check i portfowareded correctly before making this thread

No it means that your router is doing its job as it should be. It means that UPnP is not enabled as it should be.

You could try the Trigger option and see if that works, vs. doing the complete open the doorway for the port on the router.
