Hi.
I am about to try replacing a broken IO board. I've read that there is a risk of losing the OS rights but is that true also if the board is the exact same up to the version number?

Any helpful thoughts are much appreciated.

Thanks

Which IO board are we talking about? If it is the motherboard, then it is likely you will lose your OS rights, because Windows will interpret it as being a different computer. In this case, you'll need to call Microsoft and see if they will activate Windows for you with the new board. They probably will.

As Jim stated you will lose the OS Rights due to different hardware ID Codes...
So might as well upgrade Board... Then call to activate...
Or, If you are using MS Account then maybe you can Transfer those rights (with Win10 you can transfer to New PC)

Hey
Thx for replying and sorry for the lack of information. I am talking about changing a Audio USB Card reader board exactly like this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ASUS-X55...O-BOARD-REV-2-0-60NB0620-IO1030-/321838647768

You won't lose your OS rights when you change this card, unless you have already changed several other cards. In that case, you might.
