Remote Desktop Connection?

I am running windows 8.1 and when I try to enable I do not see the "remote desktop" settings. The only thing I see on my remote setting tab is "remote assistance" When I try to connect to the RD I get this error. I know that my machines are both on and connected to the same network. (see below)

Ps. I am a CIS student so please bare with me. My instructor stated that Windows 8.1 doesn't support RDs and not that I don't trust her, just wanted a second opinion.

Any help is always appreciated! :)

You could use other methods to connect even though MS doesn't support it with RD. VNC, Teamviewer & LogMeIn are some alternatives.

My instructor can provide Windows 8.1 Pro for me free of charge since I am a CIS student! But thanks for the alternative info! I'll bookmark them.

Hi TechyMom,
hopefully following will help you to set up Remote assistance: :)

You need to apply appropriate firewall rules in Windows Firewall on both sides.
Remote desktop services and Remote procedure call services need to run on both systems.
Allowing remote assistance is required on "server" side.
"Client" side needs to provide user account and password of remote machine.
If "server" is behind a NAT gateway you also need to punch a hole to allow inbound connection.
