Solved Recovery Drive Not Recognizing Flash Drive

Recovery drive won't allow me to use my 8 gb flash drive. It doesn't even recognize it. It will only recognize it when i uncheck the "Copy the recovery partition from the PC to the recovery drive. I'm assuming this is because unchecked needs 512mb and checked needs 8gb, but like I said I am using an 8gb flashdrive. Could it be because the full 8gb isn't available on the drive (only 7.45 gb is allocated) If so, can I make my flashdrive use its full 8gb? I've posted pictures below just in case you need more of an idea about what I'm talking about.

You need a larger drive.

Now I'm Outta Here answered 9 months ago: My 8gb usb only shows as 7.45 gb? - Yahoo Answers

that's the way it works

true 8GB will be equal to 8,589,934,592 bytes
- that number comes from 1,024 x 1,024 x 1,024 x 8

but the storage industry decided to start ripping us off along time ago and changed the 1,024 down to 1,000
thus the new formula is 1,000 x 1,000 x 1,000 x 8 = 8,000,000,000 bytes

which after windows converts back to real GB you get aprox. 7.45GB

Thanks for the quick reply. Can the 512mb option restore my computer to the way it was when I first bought it or do I need the full 8gb to do that?

Not a chance, you definitely need to copy the recovery partition to the flash drive.

I used a 16GB flash drive (shows as 14.9GB) and it only has 2.71GB free, so it takes a bit over 12GB to create it for my Lenovo IdeaCenter K450.

Can the 512mb option restore my computer to the way it was when I first bought it or do I need the full 8gb to do that?
You don't need USB flash drive, if you want to refresh/reset Windows 8 (see the instructions below). But I would recommend you first create a recovery USB flash drive, if Windows 8 won't start correctly.

http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/2269-system-recovery-options-boot-windows-8-a.html

OPTION THREE

To Open "Recovery" Options in PC settings
1. Open PC settings, and do step 2 or 3 below for the Windows 8 you have installed.

2. If you have Windows 8 or Windows RT, then click/tap on General on the left side, and go to step 4 below. (see screenshot below)

3. If you have Windows 8.1 or Windows RT 8.1, then click/tap on Update & recovery on the left side. (see screenshot below)

A) On the left side, click/tap on Recovery, and go to step 4 below. (see screenshot below)

4. On the right side, click/tap on the recovery option that you would like to do. (see screenshots below step 2 and 3A)

Refresh your PC (Refresh your PC without affecting your files)

Reset your PC (Remove everything and reinstall Windows)

Advanced startup
