Hello everyone,

I'd very much appreciate it if some of you could look at my zip file attached, and hopefully shed some light on why my Windows 8.1 system randomly reboots.

All Windows updates are up-to-date, as is graphics driver, motherboard drivers etc.View attachment 66476

This can happen anytime - when I am doing some light surfing, working on a document, playing a game, watching a movie etc, no real rhyme or reason I can see.

Let me know if you need any further information,

All the best,

Andy.

Daemon tools, Alcohol 120% and Power Archiver Pro uses SCSI Pass Through Direct (SPTD), which is a well known cause for BSOD's.
Please remove Daemon Tools and run the SPTD pass through remover.

  1. Uninstall Daemon Tools
  2. Download the SPTD standalone installer and follow these steps:
    • Double click the executable to open it
    • Click on the button shown below

34700d1440923396-bsod-0x124-whea_uncorrectable_error-nothing-works-a887c9d9e7.png

If the button is grayed out, like in the image, there is no more SPTD installation on your system, and you can close the window

Remove ASUS software, it is known for causing bluescreens.

I suggest to test every hard drive connected and the memory.
The 0x24, 0x1A, 0x124 and 0x101 are generally caused by hardware problems, the 0x24 specific the hard drive and the 0x1A the memory.

MemTest86+ needs to be run for at least 8 passes for conclusive results. Set it running before you go to bed and leave it overnight. We're looking for zero errors here. Even a single error will indicate RAM failure.

It may take some time, but please take the time you need to perform it properly.
Let me know what the results are

  • make a screenshot of the health of every hard drive and post the screenshots,
  • post screenshots with the benchmark of the
    • transfer rate,
    • access time,
    • burst rate,
    • cpu usage.

Thanks for your extensive reply Axe0 - I'm just working through all your suggestions gradually, and running my machine for a few days after each change, to determine what the culprit is.

All the best,

Andy.

View attachment 66649Hello everyone,

I'm afraid, despite following Axe0's excellent suggestions/instructions, I am still suffering random blue screens and reboots, and it seems every time it happens, I get a different message. The latest one, 5 minutes ago said "NTFS_FILE_SYSTEM!, I have also had "MEMORY_MANAGEMENT" recently

I ran METEST86 for 10 passes - there were zero errors. Daemon Tools has been removed, ASUS software has been removed, I am not overclocking my CPU in any way, and HD scans reported no errors.

I attach the latest, new zip diagnostic file, for you guys to look at, and thanks for any help and advice you can offer.

Andy.

Below aren't really troubleshooting suggestions, but suggestions that improve the troubleshooting process.

Please remove / disable items from the startup in taskmanager
These programs could interfere with the boot process giving you trouble and increase the boot time.

If you are using a program like Ccleaner please stop using it while troubleshooting.
This because programs like Ccleaner remove dump files that are needed to troubleshoot.
Or configure Ccleaner to not remove dump files:

Your latest bsod has a bugcheck system_service_exception 3B
Probably caused by wdfilter.sys. this is the Windows 8 CP - Microsoft antimalware file system filter driver.
This being a windows driver, normally we need to look further for the real culprit.
The procesname mentioned RapportMgmt Ser, this probably connected to/ or part of software from Trusteer.
Do you or did you use any software from Trusteer ( antimalware/virus etc.)

OK, Trusteer Endpoint Protection has been uninstalled (it was there, on the recommendation of my online banking).

Also changed CCleaner settings to stop it deleting memory dumps - I shall report back if this has made a difference.

Thanks again for your help folks!

Andy.
