Solved Question regarding Skydrive

Hi folks,

Well, I'm getting a little more used to Windows 8 now, but still have two questions I'd like answered.

1. I've turned "Sync your settings on this PC" off, but I've noticed the SkyDrive Icon is still active in the taskbar with notifications of the latest sync and the Skydrive folder is still visible. I'm wondering, why is it still active?

2. I know Windows 8 has a tutorial on how to disable it, but wondered, if Skydrive is turned off, will my Apps still automatically update, and will Windows Mail still be able to retrieve my latest emails?

Thanks.

Hello Templar,

The SkyDrive tray icon is for the SkyDrive folder syncing status instead.

Turning off syncing your user settings on SkyDrive would have no affect on the tray icon.

If you don't use SkyDrive, then you could disable SkyDrive integration to remove the tray icon.
You could also hide the icon.
Hope this helps,
Shawn

Hi Brink,

Thanks for the reply. So will having Skydrive off affect my Apps automatic update?

Not at all. :)

If you disable SkyDrive integration in Windows, it will basically remove the modern SkyDrive app, and remove the SkyDrive folders in File Explorer. This prevents users from being able to sync them with the online SkyDrive.

However, even with SkyDrive integration disabled, you will still be able to sign in to SkyDrive.com to access it online instead of from within File Explorer in Windows.
