I choose what type of snip I want, but then my whole screen is going grey (rectangular snip) or black (window snip).

When I try to take the snip all I'm getting is a picture of a black screen (hope this makes sense).

It's a while since I used this feature, but it always worked perfectly until now.

Anyone having similar problems, or can suggest a solution please?

Thanks

Open Snipping Tool > click Options > uncheck Show screen overlay...... > OK

Thanks for the suggestion David, but unfortunately it didn't work. I still get a black screen :(.

I would appreciate other suggestions please.

No idea what happened (I didn't touch anything - honestly) but the snipping tool has started to behave itself again so closing this thread.

I've reopened this thread as my problem isn't solved after all.

Seems that snipping tool works except when I'm trying to use it on the internet. For example, when I do a rectangular snip on my desktop I get this:

attachment.php

But when I try to get the same snip on a web page I get this:

attachment.php

Am I doing something wrong or does the snipping tool not work with an internet page?

There aren't even any pics in your post when you say "when I do this " etc..

so? also, you could take a picture of it from your phone or ipad or digital camera outside the monitor/screen showing the thing it does..

but it could be monitor driver issue, display adapter driver issue.. recently updated anything ?? downloaded windows updates??

refresh rate too high? low?.. troubleshooting time.

is there even a way to reinstall snipping tool?

-are you using the keys "windows + PrtSc " ?? do you try pressing Ctrl + PrtSc.. stuff like that?

Thank you for the replies.

Cliff: I did try PicPick, and got the same results. But the problem is solved if you read on.

brooksndun: I DID actually post pictures and can still see them on my post, but presumably they aren't showing up for other people. I have an ongoing challenge with posting pictures on this forum it seems.

While working through your other comments I tried Alt PrntScr and Ctrl PrntScr and this actually showed me that the problem lay with a software program I use to protect sites where I use passwords. This application appears to block screenshots from my 'sensitive' sites, but only gave me an 'over-ride' option when I used Alt or Ctrl related functions, not when I used image capturing software; in that case it just blocked the image.

I hadn't realised this because I was trying to take a screen capture from a password protected site when I encountered the problem for the first time. If I try to take a screen capture from a normal internet page, all is okay. And if I use the Alt or Ctrl method for taking the screenshot of a sensitive site, that will work too.

So in all a small amount of extra effort required in return for good protection for my sensitive sites I feel. And I learnt something new!
