Just curious looking thru these different desktops. Why are people adding so many programs for? We're just testing this O/S. I can understand trying them out, to see if you catch a bug, BUT to keep them? I see no reason for that.

I use windows 8 as my daily OS. Most of the programs I installed automatically added themselves to the start menu[like expected].

Installing Win 8 with less program most likely will encounter less problems or bugs beside driver compatibility issue.
More programs installed, more chance to find how Win 8 handle it. Just my simple thought.

But tbh, me just install whatever needed. :p

Beta testing! That's the name of the game. You find out what works, what doesn't and the such as well as learning where the nuts and bolts of the new OS are at. So by the time it's mainstream, you theoretically have about a year's worth of experience dealing with it, so theoretically, you can be a member of a support forum and help others out.

I understand that Coke Robot, BUT once I have finished testing an app on Windows 8 RP, why would I want to keep it on my test box for? Afterall as you said, we are beta testing, and once an application has passed the review, should be removed. I contact the vendors of the various titles I put on Windows 8 (DP, CP, & RP) and ask their permission. The feedback I get from them, is to also let them know my findings. I remove the title after the testing from my end is completed.

It's cool that you're so committed to testing windows 8 so well, but I think the rest of us just want to, you know, use the computer. I put windows 8 on my new build because I was too lazy to find my windows 7 disk, and I just use it everyday for normal use. I really only spend a little bit of time actually using the computer for "testing".

Not a problem there phailyoor, most users here feel that way as well. What I was/am saying is once the party is over they turn out the lights. Meaning a lot of your software titles have to be reregistered back to Windows 7, XP, Vista what ever you were using originally on that/those PC(s), and that is a pain in the preverbal derriere.

Hi there
I don't use Metro -- I enable Classic Shell which boots me straight to my desktop bypassing Metro start screen (also gives me the Classic Start menu back again too) !!. Classic shell enables you to bypass Metro if you want to skip the Metro start screen and go straight to the desktop.

Here's mine on a Sony VAIO running W8 Release Preview. Using the "Futuristic Fractals" theme from W7 -- works fine on W8 too.

Cheers
jimbo
