Portable Harddrive Changed Location letters from E to F

Hi I have a portable hardrive that i save all my work on and I use it work off, today I went to access my excel sheets and ive noticed my portable hardrive is now F and Im unable to open my excel sheets (Excel sheets have a E in front of them the old portable harddrive letter )(loads of work on here), how do i change the name so i can access the files ???
Sorry in advance if I havnt used the correct terminology :-/

Right click on Start button > Run > diskmgmt.msc, chose the disk you want and "Change drive letter and Paths" on the right click menu on that drive.

In Excel, do a file open and browse to the F: drive and reopen your document. What CountMike said will work too.

if you encounter the same problem again just change the drive letter again

but this problem its rarely happen

Thankyou so much for your help, I really appreciate it :) will do what you suggested today, what would cause the driver name to change like that ???
Connecting another USB device while this drive is not connected can take letter of another. Changing USB port can do it to.
Assigning letter to a drive is something OS does and it's not written on a drive itself so it does not stay on it.
