Lets share a simple but working, reliable and awesome tip, that will let you boot directly into Windows 8 RP Desktop directly, without using 3rd party tool or using any script.

1. Move the Desktop Tile and place it in the top left corner of the Metro Start Screen, just below the Start text.

2. Reboot your Windows 8 and you will see the login screen. As usual, type in your local account or Windows Live account password. Just enter the password, don’t press the Next arrow or Enter key here.

3. Now press AND hold down the Enter key. In a few seconds, you will see your Windows 8 desktop appear Thus will have skipped Metro Start Screen smartly!

Try and check it yourself :cool:

Nice find, works when I tested it.

Although the start screen doesn't bother me at all, this will be useful for those that don't want to see the metro screen when they startup.

Tapping the Enter key seems to make the process go much faster. Otherwise it takes a while for me to get through the Metro screen when I continuously hold the Enter key down. Good find.

By the way, didn't reboot my unit I just use the Ctrl+Alt+Del to lock the Start Screen. Then I did try to move Desktop Tile in any position of Start Screen still it works.
Though you figure it out as short cut key to Desktop. :)
Thanks!

heh, I am down to only three apps on my Metro page, Desktop, Weather, and Skydrive... By putting the Desktop app at the top left, the Enter key can be hit at any time in Metro to show the desktop.

K, down to ONE icon on (formally known as) Metro (desktop of course). Just right click on any icon and "Unpin from Start". If I want to pin something back onto Metro, right click on a blank part and select ALL APPS at the bottom right. Right click again to select whatever icon you want back and use the "Pin to Start" to put it into the main Metro screen. Eliminate the clutter without worrying about losing the icon.
Always put the Desktop Icon in the upper left corner so hitting ENTER will kick off desktop.

I really don't see the point of going to all that trouble if you have a win logo key.

If you have not upgraded to Windows 8.1 yet.

Boot To The Desktop - For Windows 8 and 8 Pro

Make sure you have "Hide extensions for known file types" unchecked in Folder Options. Just for file verification purposes.
Re-check it afterwards if you want.

Create the "Show Desktop" file:

Open a text editor like Notepad. (not Word or Wordpad)
Copy and Paste or type the following into the text editor:

[Shell]
Command=2
IconFile=explorer.exe,3
[Taskbar]
Command=ToggleDesktop

Do not have any extra spaces at the top and do not "Carriage Return" (enter) to next line at the end.

Save the file as - Show Desktop.scf (actually any name you want, just remember it)
When you see the file it will have the Desktop icon but it will not have .scf at the end even with "Hide extensions for known file types" unchecked. Right click the file and go to properties. It should have "Type of file: File Explorer Command (.scf)" and the name should be just "Show Desktop" with no extension.

Copy the file to the "Start Menu\Programs\Startup" folder.
There are more than one "Startup" folders in Windows 8 and 8 Pro. Put it in this one:

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

Close everything down. Restart your computer.

When it boots up, it will pause at the "Start" screen until it reads the contents of Startup.
It will then go to the Desktop with nothing opened up.

Side note: If you want something to open automatically when you boot up, put it in this same Startup folder after Show Desktop.
