Outlook (Word Editor)2003 will not autofill names

p23185

New Member
I installed 2003 outlook and word (outlook editor) on my brand new Win 8.1 netbook and when typing the "TO" and "CC" lines the names show up but when pressing enter they will not be accepted. I have to enter the first couple of letters of the names and then press the "check names" icon and go through the list even though the one I wanted was the one that showed up on the auto fill line singularly.

I know the auto fill does not go to the outlook contact book but rather remembers the names as they are "sent".

I have used outlook for years on both Win XP and Win 7 (various 32+64, Pro, Ultimate) and now with Win 8 it will NOT work the same way. My brother has the identical netbook and is running Outlook 2007 and it performs the same way - will not allow enter to complete the autofill. Whatsup over there at MS?

Anyone know why?

Not much help but on a desktop here with 8.1 and Outlook 2007 it works hitting enter or tab to autofill.

Great - you just solved it for me - I CAN USE TAB rather than ENTER. But why???? Time to #$%^ the engineers.

Any reason you can't update to Office 2013? I know, I prefer Office 2000 and 2003 as well, they have better Templates and the Macro Protection is not in those. But I saved the Templates and they work in Office 2007 to 2013.

With my limited use of Word - just formatting emails - I see no reason to update to Office 2013 from between $139-399 depending on which suite. I am NOT going to learn where all the new buttons and selections are on the ribbon. My wife had 2007 and it drove me nuts - I finally trashed it and installed Office 2003 on her two machines also. There is absolutely no reason for ME to upgrade. I will stick with 2003 notwithstanding the fact support will cease in April 2014.

Ok, well 2003 should run, I havent tried it in Windows 8 yet though. Just get it installed, and download any updates from Windows Update that are offered.
