Optional Update KB3000850

Got this optional update (KB3000850) today and no information yet.
It was 723.9 MB and took forever to install.

I will wait for the information to be posted before I update my Laptop.

UPDATE: MS just released the information. Its a Nov 2014 rollup so that is why it was so big.

Jim

i had it downloaded successfully and restarted but windows 8.1 would roll back changes after 2 attempts in installing it in 2 consecutive reboots.

after it booted up to desktop and changes were supposedly rolled back, my asus suite 3 would not run and the asus fan service showed error messages. did couple of reboots but still shows same error, and asus suite 3 still wont run.

i decided to reinstall it but the uninstaller will not show up, same thing when i did it on programs and features.
i tried reinstalling it using the downloaded asus suite 3 program installer and that will not run either.

on my way of refreshing the pc now.

i dont know any other things this optional update affected but it certainly is a huge mess. should have learned disabling auto-update from the beginning. >_<

Just seen this on another thread and the symptoms sounds almost the same as what I'm seeing with this update with the exception of the "pending restart" bit.

Hi,

Everything running fine till a few days ago, when all WU failed. Installed several updates manually & left with just a few that simply refuse to install; KB3008627, KB3003057, KB2976978 & KB3011780. They all seem to install fine, but during the reboot I get "Failure configuring Windows Updates", it undoes & restarts twice. Then WU says "pending restart".

I've tried; W8.1 WU fixit, DISM restorehealth, SFC /scannow, removing Windows UEFI in the BIOS, reset permissions, full chkdsk, uninstalling all AV/MalWare software & numerous other things.

I used Microsoft Support. They connected remotely & tried the same things. They then said they are seeing 0x800F0922 on systems where there is no "System Reserved". I installed W8.1 into an existing partition on my SSD (I realized the previous OS had a SR partition - but at the end of the drive...? So I now have 448Mb unallocated at the end of the SSD (C drive).

MS said I needed to reinstall W8.1 - from scratch, deleting all partitions & creating new, which will then create a new SR partition. I'm not keen - since I have lots of apps, so it'll take an age.

Is there a way to create the SR partition without reinstalling W8.1 completely? Will EasyBCD do it? If so, what options/how etc?

I only have the 1 OS installed to C:WINDOWS. 1 Samsung 250Gb SSD. C is 238Gb; System, Boot, Page File, Active, Crash Dump, Primary Partition.

Apparently the 0x800F0922 error indicates insufficient space in the SR partition. Of course - I don't even have one.

Thanks
Martin

Being one of life's constant tinkerers my system reserved partition is long gone......it's my disc space, I paid for it and Microsoft aren't having it. Maybe there was an actual reason for the system reserved partition being there after all?

Since I installed KB3000850 and KB3011780 my laptop will not shutdown or reboot. It just hangs on the teal shutdown screen and I have to power-off. Also noticed that CyberGhost 5 will not connect to any countries servers.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thank you

I've just uninstalled Avast free ver and everything is now working okay.
Bye bye avast, now looking for an alternative.

I'll try that too, can always install it again.

Just confirmed it, AVAST is the culprit. Uninstalled it (using own uninstaller) and all is back to normal. !!!! One little problem WD is not showing up in Services at all. Now, age old question, which one to choose ?, I have Bitdefender on W 10 but don't like it, too automatic for my liking.

An optional update conflict with avast, weird
Or the other way around !!!
Still no clear picture on which all programs and apps have been affected by this update!
Back to the basics - defender?
Can't find Defender in Services at all. Can't turn it on. Going to try dism, might get it back untill I find something better.

Wow! Since I don't use defender or avast, this thing really didn't show up for me at front. Who knows what else have been affected by this one?

Did you try searching it in charms bar?

Defender is there, just can't turn it on on account of it's service completely missing I guess.

Is there some command prompt commands so that you could try to enable it from there?
Tried dism, did not get it back, Should try MSE maybe. Darn it, feel naked without at least some protection, have to scour internet to find a free AV that I may like.
