How to Add or Remove OneDrive in This PC in Windows 8.1

information   Information
SkyDrive is now called OneDrive instead.

OneDrive is Now Available Worldwide: Free Cloud Storage for Microsoft, iOS, and Android Devices | OneDrive Blog

OneDrive is a cloud-based storage service where you can view, browse, upload, and share the files you saved online to OneDrive.com. Store any file on OneDrive and it's automatically available to access or share from any device.

In Windows 8 and Windows RT, OneDrive was available to browse in the OneDrive app and only in File Explorer after installing the OneDrive desktop app.

In Windows 8.1 and Windows RT 8.1, OneDrive is more deeply integrated at the system level. Your OneDrive folders are now displayed in the navigation pane of File Explorer on the desktop for easier access and management in Windows 8.1. In addition, the OneDrive app will still always be available on your Start screen for access since it can no longer be uninstalled in Windows 8.1.

This tutorial will show you how to add or remove OneDrive (SkyDrive) folders in This PC in File Explorer for all users in Windows 8.1 and Windows RT 8.1.

You must be signed in as an administrator to be able to do the steps in this tutorial.

It's called syncDriver for OneDrive and can be used with Local Accounts on Windows 8.1 on the desktop however it's not been actively in development since Windows 8.1 Preview, version 1.2 was release at the end of July 2013 according to Softpedia download link but the author did change the name from syncDriver for SkyDrive to syncDriver for OneDrive.

The resource usage memory and CPU is a about the same as OneDrive for Desktop the last time I used it, the program can be set to not run at startup for manually launching to sync files when needed.

Hello Candy, and welcome to Eight Forums. :)

Which option did you try?

Do you have a 32-bit or 64-bit Windows 8.1?

Double check to make sure that you did all the steps in the option for your 32-bit or 64-bit Windows 8.1. If you miss one, it will not work.

Thank You, Bink! Program Manager-006816.jpg but it is still in the navigation window. Me and computers are not getting along. Dell and Microsoft have been over 2 weeks now trying to resolve a task bar issue. The bar is constantly up in the primary monitor but autohides correctly in the secondary monitor. I try what you suggested, but I have NO faith in win 8.1.

I just reread and realized I misunderstood your previous email. I am the administrator but do not think I aam logging as such, I Googled it but none of this instructions matched what I get on my computer. They said to right click on computer which I do not have but believe This PC is the same thing I clicked on Manage and got the Computyer Management window but I get System Tools, Storage, Services and Applications instead of a list of registered users. The other option was to click on the all apps icon but I do not have that option. When I open to all the apps I do have command prompt but when I click it, I get the window not the screenshot they are showing with "Run as administrator" being an option.

I have never had the many issue with another machine. I just retried OneDrive Integration in Windows 8.1 - Enable or Disable. This time it worked and I was able to save the file to the desk top, ran it and now onedrive is not showing in either window pane. Last time I did not get the save option. So this was a success! The more sophisticated these machines get the more bugs arise...

Gents, I have a Surface Pro 3 on a work domain. I have local admin rights, but not domain admin. I have OneDrive syncing between my Surface Pro 3, cloud and a desktop computer which is NOT on the work domain.. Syncing with cloud and desktop work fine. However, my Surface on the domain syncs folders but not files.

I cannot change any settings from the Win 8 OneDrive app. I have "Access all my OneDrive files offline" turned ON, but no files sync. I ran the OneDrive diagnostic tool and it said I have a problem with permissions. I'd like to first try reinstalling OneDrive.

Would the .reg files listed her actually reset permissions, or does it just disable/re-enable OneDrive? Any other suggestions?

Hello Will, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Sorry, but no. The .reg files will only add or remove OneDrive from the navigation pane, and nothing else.

I would recommend to create a new thread in the "Network" forum area to see what we can do to help there. :)

Hi Brink - What exactly do you mean in Option 1 by " If you have not already, you will need to take ownership for Administrators first?" Your ownership tutorial shows many ways to take ownership, so I'm not sure which exactly you are referring to. I using an individual/admin account in a newly reinstalled Win 8.1 Pro x64 set up. Thanks,

Hello highstream,

You would use step 3 in OPTION FOUR for a registry key. :)
