My grandmother was recently hacked and she changed all her passwords herself (yay!):thumb:. However she did not write down her new local user account password for her laptop.

I tried downloading OPHCrack, I burned it as an ISO file and put it on a DVD-R(only thing I had on hand) and i changed the boot order on her BIOS menu to had the DVD drive as the first priority. It does not run....I hear the disk drive moving, or spinning but the program does not run. Are there any other options or do I have to do a complete system restore to bypass this? Also if that is what I have to do how do I do that without being in her control panel?

Hello there "hater",are you sure you downloaded the right OPHcrack version? It should be the one that is intended to be used on,not the one being used to download and be burned on.Try imgburn, never failed me to create bootable CDs or DVDs.

Should work with that seven version, give it another try burning it at lower speed, what software are you using?
EDIT downloading now, will try to reproduce the procedure

My CD is booting up just fine.On a second thought,we are talking about password cracking software and might get in trouble for this, there are rules about that, here at the forum. Why not simply restore the system and get it done?Use TeamViewer, take control of her laptop,do the job and let it restore-reboot on its own?Shouldnt be more than a couple of phonecalls of trouble...

Ok Whoops! Sorry to the powers that be. How do I do a system restore while being locked out of her account?

If you can get safe mode with command prompt type in rstrui.exe to conjure up System Restore & choose a restore point.
Unless You can't, reinstall the OS & start from scratch. :)

A simple way to avoid this in the future is to get a notebook & WRITE DOWN passwords.

She forgot it before that could be done. Thanks tho!
