old games are very slow

Still the same in the latest Windows 10 build. They're not going to fix it are they, looks like it's Windows 7 indefinitely. Stupid really but there you go.

That's what I thought but obviously trying to amalgamate 2 different GUIs is more important than fixing issues like this.

That shouldn't have stopped them, unless of course MS is trying to push Xbox games.

If it is going to be fixed i don't expect it right away in the updates from the builds. I think when its released officially or near release. I wouldn't completely give up hope yet. Also don't forget to give them feedback about the issue on their website and the feedback app in the preview.I already did my part and trying to spread the world as much as i can. Here are some links to raise awareness:

Twitter handle from the man in charge of the updates for W10. I tweet him the issue or link him to it usually when he talks about a new update:
https://twitter.com/GabeAul

Here you can vote for the issue to be fixed:

https://windows.uservoice.com/forum...he-frame-rate-issue-that-has-been-in-since-wi

And of course do not forget the feedback app itself where the issue has been reported. You just need to give it a vote or add extra in the suggestion box if you want.

Windows 10 build 10041 has been released. Anyone tested the DirectDraw games with it yet?

I have signed up to Twitter especially to ask Gabe Aul but he never replied. Too busy replying to posts like "When is the next build going to be out" etc.

I'm not sure how genuine it is that he would be a Microsoft Employee (Though I don't think you can have the MSFT tag and the little Microsoft banner under your username if not). He also hasn't replied recently but if you get a chance please reply to both of these just to give them something to think about if indeed it is being reported back now.

Hopefully they eventually do something with it. I added my troublesome games.

I wonder how Commandos 1 and the exp pack runs. It was already crappy when I played it on xp. It ran too fast.

I tried the new build 10130 and it seems like some things are fixed! Unreal tournament 99 now runs fine at 60 fps where before it did not, some other games too like hitman code 47. Also DOOM and DOOM 2 now work where before they did not at all. The bad news is that they introduced some more issues though. max payne, hitman 2 and mafia run but are in a window and i cant play them in full screen like i could before this update. It seems like they are at least paying attention, lets hope they continue to work on the issue.

Remember to keep spreading the word because it is getting heard.

twitter for gabe aul who is basically in charge of windows 10 preview : https://twitter.com/GabeAul

Here are the new issues from this build:

longest journey - when i try to quit the game, the textbox that suppose to say yes or no is all white and you cannot seem the actual way it is suppose to look. It is just a white textbox.

grand theft auto 3
- the text in the menus look transparent for some reason.

hitman 2
- doesnt work right anymore,it used to before this new build.

unreal tournament 2004 - gives critical error, does not launch anymore. worked before this new build.

Deus Ex - better framerate than before but still not consistent, drops in some places.

dino crisis
- forced window,i cannot have a full screen without borders.

splinter cell - blinks on intro, had to alt tab to have full screen once. it worked fine before.

ghost recon - blinks all the time, worked fine before.

mafia - windowed mode, no full screen. was full screen before this build.

max payne 1 - windowed mode, no full screen. was full screen before this build.

quake 1 - blink issues, worked fine before.still low fps on this one.

Ah you posted here too.

I'm gonna copy my post from answers because it's more apporopriate here:
Did you try any Directdraw games? (I'm not familiar with most of these to tell)

Did you have any mouse/aiming issues with gta3? What was the fps? If I'm not mistaken it was capped at 30 for VC. Did you try Vice City too?

[DEL]Or better yet which games got fixed or better?[/DEL](I see you already mentioned them here)

Project Centennial - App-V

When it will be released, this will solve most of the issues with old programs: convert them to an app:
https://channel9.msdn.com/Events/Build/2015/2-692

How do you imagine that? Around no-one will bother with their sould out software. Plus it's for classic (aka contemporary) windows app to universal apps. No mention of old directx/directdraw, etc.

I'll have to agree.
But imaging is one of the first steps.

I don't know much about the technique yet. We have to wait to see it in action with some examples.

Just noted as a theoretical possibility.
If App-V could virtualize old basic directx/directdraw it would be extremely useful in remastering classic well-known games that now have issues for example, without 16bit color and compatibility. For instance full-screen-only titles like CNC Red Alert 2 would have a great benefit from the app switch / minimize functionality without switching resolution.

Ralf - That's good it seems they must be working on it. So when I find a decent Windows Media Centre replacement I can upgrade to Windows 10. As for certain games running windowed maybe it's compatibility stuff they're testing at the moment. Have you tried installing the latest DirectX Redist? https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/details.aspx?id=8109 It's 5 years old now but it does include useful libraries that some older games depend on.

avada - If I'm not mistaken I think the aiming issue in GTA3/VC is a problem within the game it's self at higher resolutions. I've found running it in a 4:3 resolution solves the issue. I think there are POV mods to solve it.

Yea i did try the latest DirectX Redist and it still has the issue. I am guessing that they are in the middle of figuring it out though so we will see.

for gta vc the mouse issue does indeed seem to be something to do with higher resolutions. even in windows 7 it has the inconsistent issues where it works but if you press esc and then esc again it can get messed up.
