It is a stupid format!!! it at no point makes any logical sense and I think was only invented to confuse the rest of the world.

What IS different is that unlike W7 Enterprise where you got 1 key which worked like a VL Key W8 probably needs to be activated like the NON enterprise W7 versions on TechNet -- still these had 10 activations per key -- anybody volunteering to test this out for us with W8 -- at least see if it activates more than ONCE. You can always say to Ms that you were building a computer and changed the HDD to an SSD and added a USB3 port - or something like that.
I downloaded the Enterprise version from MSDN. it came with 1 key, that is a MAK key. The software installs without asking for the key. However, activation will fail, as the ISO has a pre-baked KMS key in it. Unlike Windows 7, you don't have a nice GUI button that says, Change Product key. Instead, you have to use the slmgr.vbs -ipk <insert your product key here> command at an elevated command prompt, or slmgr.vbs -upk and then you will get the button back.

I haven't activated yet, instead I am waiting it out to see how long it works without activation. Most of my testing is done this way, I'm hoping that get 3-10 days and if so, that will be perfect for most things that I do.

I know loads of our various I.T people had and used TechNet subscriptions -- rolling out W7 for example was a HORRENDOUS exercise
Ok, maybe lots of places do indeed use Technet subscriptions for this stuff. The places I have worked in used the volume licensing versions or MSDN. Since we already paid for those subscriptions, it seemed logical to use that software, instead of spending even more on Technet subscriptions to get the software again. I never said we didn't test or didn't have to determine whether our different hardware worked, I just said we didn't use Technet for our testing.

Brummy, I think he is ummmmmmmmmmmm upset that the American version is 12 hour, and not 24 hour as with the UK.
12 hours in the AM (Ante Meridiem), and 12 hours in the PM (Post Meridiem), personally I don't see the biggie in it. And being taught that, and also being in the Military, 13 hundred, 14 hundred, 15 hundred hours, etc. JUST sounds dumb to me. Check it out yourself Midnight 24 hundred hours, or 24 hundred hours Midnight. Come on now, that doesn't sound totally dumb to you? Even the American Navy that also uses the 24 hour clock saying while on watch 18 hundred hours and ALLS well!!

Hi there

re-checked -- I actually downloaded the PRO version the first time by mistake.

the Enterprise version definitely states claimed 1 out of 1 keys - Multiple activation

Sorry for any error My fault
---

The speed of download was so quick and I assumed that only W8 Enterprise would be available on TechNet after all the posts previously -- so I downloaded the first version I saw -- scrolled down further and saw Enterprise version

BTW what's the difference between the ENG version (which I downloaded) and the UK English version -- since you can install your input keyboard and language what's the difference.

BTW thanks for the tip on activation -- to enter the product key.

Cheers
jimbo

No, on install of my UK ISO the date format was the completely illogical mm/dd/yyyy

What's wrong with that format? mm = 2 digit for the month example 03, 2 digits for the day 25, and 4 digit for the year: 1994.
I find it no harder then using Mar/March - 25 - 1994. Actually if memory serves me correct, wasn't it YOU (UK) that started that WHOLE decimal dilemma? Making the world use .25 - .50 - .75? Instead of just using 1/4 - 1/2 - 3/4? :sarc:

The correct date format that the majority of the world uses is dd/mm/yyyy or the ISO stardard of yyyy/mm/dd so the date is either in ascending or descending order unlike the US version (see picture posted at top of page).

One error in that picture, it should be day, NOT date. The collection of the 3 mm/dd/yyyy makes the date.

Meh, semantics. I did it in about 15 seconds while my project manager was stood behind me when I should have been finishing off a report.

I have found that the retail keys for Win7 from Technet pretty much has a really high number of installs per key. I have wiped and reloaded that damn key a good dozen times on my main machine that I continually hardware upgrade and have a few activations on my HTPC using the same key. I have yet to get any activation failed...

Interesting. Win8 Pro Retail from Technet silently activated Windows with my product key without any input from me. Y'know, clicking the "Windows needs to be activated" icon that pops up on Win7. I think that is part of the new hammer down on piracy policy that MS has implemented with Win8.

I don't expect windows eight to be nearly as generous as windows 7.
