Oct 17 -- who's got it (W8.1) - Public release only

Needed a restart before showing up in store.

No hurry or need for 8.1 ftm, but curiosity will probably win (some good imaging to be done first).

Hi folks
About 30 mins to go -- will then run some sort of comparison between the RTM and today's version (X-64 ISO's TechNet).

Off for a nice Glass of Scotch while waiting !!!!

Cheers

At least it gave me an error code this time around - 0xC1900101 - 0x20017 which appeared around the preview time. Now to track down the culprit.

At least I don't have to keep downloading the update.

One more try tonight...

Just put it on a laptop and all went well.
So then I upgraded my main machine. Everything went to plan except for one glitch - I changed the settings to allow booting to desktop mode. Upon booting it unexpectedly asked for my password - previously I'd opted out of that.

Then the desktop wallpaper shown appeared to be zoomed in to a ridiculous degree - it looked like a pixel grid pattern. Fixed by re-choosing the wallpaper image.

All looking good. (So far)

Third times a charm. Looks like it was an app. Uninstalled them all (didn't have many to begin with) and it went smoothly.

OK, it looks like all the Enterprise and VL editions are up. The regular 8.1 English is the one I'm looking for. I'm sure it will show up eventually.

As I posted on another thread, I had a Logitech Updater error after the 8.1 installation (see screen shot below). I had to use Win Patrol to delete the Logitech updater dll as other suggestions on the web didn't work.

I'm downloading 8.1 upgrade on a second system now, it too has a Logitech mouse I'll see what happens with that one.

Here is the error I had to fix:

Just do what it tells you to do. Bring up the charms bar, bring up the switcher. I think I got 3 of these 'tips', and then they stopped.

I see the update in the store but I am in no hurry to install it. My Windows 8 laptop and netbook are running fine without it so I'll wait for the dust to settle before I consider installing it. I have the run the preview as well as RTM in a VM and haven't seen anything in 8.1 that makes me in a hurry to do the upgrade.

Retired in 2015 after working in the tech industry for 41 years. First 10 years as a Technician, the rest as a programmer/software engineer. After 1 year of retirement, I was bored so went back to work as a Robotic Process Automation Consultant. Retired for 3rd (and final) time in 2019.
I KNEW I shouldn't have updated. My perfectly running vanilla 8 is now a unstable freeze fest. This has not been an enjoyable experience tonight. And to top it off my Media centre key knocked out my activation. I'm looking at a bloody fresh install on my desktop after all :(

My laptop however seems to be free of any issues...
