This tutorial will show you how to turn on or off to play notification sounds for Store apps in your user account in Windows 8, Windows RT, Windows 8.1, and Windows RT 8.1.





OPTION ONE
To Turn On or Off Play App Notification Sounds in PC settings

1. Open PC settings, and do step 2 or 3 below for what Windows 8 you have.​
2. In Windows 8 or Windows RT, click/tap on Notifications on the left side, and go to step 4 below. (see top screenshot below step 4)​
3. In Windows 8.1 or Windows RT 8.1, click/tap on Search and apps on the left side, and go to step 4 below. (see screenshot below)​

4. In the right pane under Notifications, move the Play notification sounds slider right (turn on) or left (turn off) for what you want to do. (see screenshots below)​
NOTE: Play notification sounds is turned on by default. If Show app notifications is turned off, then the "Play notification sounds" will be grayed out and disabled.​

5. When finished, you can close PC settings if you like.​





OPTION TWO
To Turn On or Off Play App Notification Sounds using a BAT File

The .reg files below are for the registry key and value below.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\PushNotifications

AudioEnabled DWORD

0 = Turn off
1 = Turn on


1. Do step 2 or 3 below for what you would like to do.​
2. To Turn On Play App Notification Sounds
NOTE: This is the default setting.​
A) Click/tap on the Download button below to download the BAT file below, and go to step 4 below.​

3. To Turn Off Play App Notification Sounds
A) Click/tap on the Download button below to download the BAT file below, and go to step 4 below.​

4. Save the .bat file to your desktop.​
5. Double click/tap on the downloaded .bat file to run it.​
6. If prompted, click/tap on Run.​
NOTE: If you like, you can stop getting the Run prompt by unblocking[/B] the downloaded .bat file.​
7. You will now notice your screen flicker and a command prompt quickly open and close as explorer is restarted to apply the registry changes.​
8. When finished, you can delete the downloaded .bat file if you like.​
