No Windows 9

I installed Win10 Tech Preview on a test PC yesterday and it installed quickly with no issues whatsoever. So far, so good!

All right, well then that's cool. What about hierarchical folder organization in the new Start menu? Pardon my asking, I don't know if I've seen that yet, and somebody on another site was already complaining that it's a fail because that functionality is not present in the preview.

I was interested by this quote in the geek.com article:

"If you’ve actually read through an EULA before — particularly one for a piece of software that’s still a work in progress — you know this is something companies do. Microsoft didn’t hide the fact that they were going to with the Windows 10 Technical Preview, either. It’s all right there in the EULA in plain English."

Anyone want to venture a guess on the percentage of people running win10 that read that EULA. In this day and age where every bit of software has an EULA that you must read and agree to, it is most common practice to click "I agree" instantly and get on with using the software.

My own guess is that readers of the EULA are in the less than 0.1% range.

Any testing of win10 that involves the internet almost surely requires the entering of passwords. Which Microsoft now has keylogged.

I'm just saying --

I wonder how much this will cost as an upgrade to 8.1? it will be interesting because so many businesses have not converted yet to 8.1 and so many are still purchasing windows 7 Pro sp1.

Alas, not too promising if the current 8.1 upgrade offer for Partners' customers is anything to go by...

Yeah that was the best deal I had seen from MS for a new OS lol, and it covered XP, Vista, and 7, I bought it just to have it if needed later cause they gave you so much time to put in your pre order, than when it was released, you put in the code they sent to D/L it. What I liked was ALL my programs I had on my 7 home premium were there after installing 8 pro, and after I got a couple 3rd party tools I had no problems with it.

So I'd like to see something like that this time around too :) for 10

btw, Got my CPA buddy to order it too, but funny is he never used it, his wife didn't like 8 so she kept 7 on her laptop. He still has the license laying around somewhere lolol.

LOL man all I did was mention the deal MS had for W8 back when, lol, and it took off, I hope no one thinks its been put out by MS that 10 is the same deal. I said I "hope" they would do that again, but so far i'm not sure what the deal is going to be.

Will it be a low ball $ for XP/Vista users to get them on track?, will it be a low ball $ for W8.1.1 users cause they are on track?, or will they have another 15$ "pre order" deal for all? If they do I sure hope they offer it as a "ISO" download this time.

If MS for some reasn decides to offer it as a free upgrade to 8.1.1 users, I wonder if the retail W8 key would still activate it.

Someone with a higher pay grade and availability to the MS insiders might be able to get better info, I'm not even aware of the release date of this 10 thing yet. If that was known maybe any pre deal type thing date could be somewhat calculated.

I'm very confused by a lot of comments here. Why would you abandon 7 when it looks so much better than 9?

LOL.... I even prefer Vista's looks, however I will say I like 8.1 now that I have been running the evaluation edition on a VM. All I wanted to know is that I would have a supported path to run my applications after Vista's extended phase support runs out in 2017. And at that point, I will run 8.1 until 2023.

But yes, I think there's a lot more hoopla about Windows 10 than justified. The Start Menu implementation is rather lackluster if you ask me. It's not as customizable. Give me back IOBit StartMenu 8 or Classic Shell anytime. And the only other improvement seems to be slightly in speed. But turn off a lot of services that help pick up the speed in 8.1.

I just don't get why everyone is soooooo worked up over it. And yes I know that the TP represents early days, so I should give it a chance. (but that may also apply the other way around - those that love the TP may hate the RTM; we'll see)
:)

Fair enough, but what's wrong with speculation and wonder? After all, until the TP was release two weeks ago, the entire board's existence was based on speculation.

Edit!!! Silly me, and I thought I was posting on Ten Forums...lol, but the new OS was indeed being discussed here. :)
