No Windows 9

Everything runs in a window:
Apps from the Windows Store now open in the same format that desktop apps do and can be resized and moved around, and have title bars at the top allowing for maximize, minimize, and close with a click.

I am looking forward to this feature in Win 10

It's just good marketing: they distance themselves from Windows 8 and at the same time they generate more buzz by using a name that (almost?) no one was expecting.

Wait 'til they release Windows Server Edition X, or as it'll be abbreviated to...

No matter the number, it seems that they adressed most of the demands: resizeable metro apps, the real start menu is back, option to start with Start Screen or Desktop etc. That's realy new from Microsoft! I'm very glad of it. Common sens prevailed.

you are joking right?

Did you mean one has the option to start with the Desktop or Start Menu....AND then stay on that option. Hard to believe it will happen like that.

I will never get rid of that Desktop i guess.

In Windows 10, you can switch between the Start Menu and the Start Screen. But for right now, you have to log off and log back in again to do it. As others have said, you can run all the Windows 8 apps from the new Start Menu, but I would like to have both available at the same time. Case in point, if I am out and about on my Yoga, I make want to use the Start Screen but when I have it in laptop mode, I may want to use the Start Menu.

Here's some videos on it's operation. I'll have one about switching between Start Screen and Start Menu later today.

10 sounds nice to me. A nice, even number, and our whole decimal system is based on it.

Sure, I guess marketing is part of it. Make it seem like a major leap from 7 and 8. It caught me by surprise too, so I guess the interwebz is full of people chatting about it.

Hmm ... Windows 10 ... Windows X ... OS 10 ... OS X. Oh, Hi Apple! Didn't see you there. ;)

And my understanding is that this is supposed to be the "final big release" of Windows, but I don't know what that means. Is this true? Is it just going to be "Windows" from now on, with gradual updates, 10.x.x indefinitely?

I do not have a good testing machine. So instead of what some of the videos from some of the other testers. I have to say my initial impression is very positive. While I compare it to Linux KDE, I mean it as a positive comparison. No, it does not look like the old Windows, but all the functionality for the desktop is there. The new alt tab is very useful, as are the virtual desktops. Time will tell as testing and newer builds rollout. But I have to say I think they're on the right track.

Nice, but still bit confused by how this Start Menu will be compared to Windows 7 to please the ones wanting it back.
Assume all applications (software installed too) in start screen can be there in Start menu. See the preview is out.

LOL.
My first computer didn't even have a floppy drive but used tapes. No HDD of course. When loading programs, it took 20-30 minutes at least, with weird sounds coming from the speaker (similar to old modem sounds).
And if the tape was scratched or the computer didn't feel like it, I had to rewind the tape and restart the whole process.
Good times :)

And nowadays some people complain windows takes too much time to boot up (seconds to minutes...). Sigh...

Well i could live with that, but isn't it better to wait for Windows9, because for Windows 10 i must know if compatible with Windows 8 computers.

thanks
