No new Windows Phone flagship until second half of 2015

It is no secret that 2014 hasn't been the busiest year for Windows Phone, at least with regards to flagship devices. Mostly a consequence of the reshuffle of employees that took place within Microsoft following their acquisition of Nokia's Devices and Services division earlier in the year, only one true flagship was released, the Lumia 930.

If new rumors prove to be true, users may have to wait a lot longer yet before seeing a true 900 or 1000 series successor emerge. Apparently Microsoft will opt to focus on budget devices, showing off a successor to the 625 and the new 430 at MWC in March. This leaves rather a large gap, in which potentially nothing will emerge that will really make headlines.

2014 didn't have a true flagship Windows Phone. The Lumia 1520 from 2013 is still the king of Windows Phone's. All the new phones other than having newer cpu's/graphics, are otherwise lower spec'd than any Windows Phone 8 equivalent.

Yeah the 935, 1330 and 1530 aren't coming until Windows 10 is released.

I have to wait until the end of October before I can upgrade to a Windows phone. If I could upgrade today I would go with the Lumia 1520. I'm hoping AT&T has a larger selection to choose from when I'm ready to upgrade.

You'll probably be able to get a true flagship Windows 10 one then or November.

Until there are apps out there that require the newest CPUs and GPUs, there's no need for a new flagship (IMO). To play devil's advocate, a lot of the "app gap" issues could also come down to the current trend of racing to the bottom on hardware with no new flagships for awhile, but given the problem of app quality and quantity has existed for awhile, that's probably not the entirety of the story.

I miss using WP for certain things (Cortana, proper email/calendar integration when using Exchange or O365). It's too bad we'll have to wait until at least a year from now to see potentially new WP devices that will compete in specs again with the high-end on Android and the iPhone.
