No audio at all problem, only static noise

So I recently upgraded from windows 8 to windows 8.1 Pro. I used to have windows on a normal harddisk, but I installed Windows on my new SSD, that I didn't have before. Everything is working fine, except for the sound. All my sound equipment works fine on other computers, so that's not the problem.
Also, my speakers aren't completely silent, when I turn the volume all the way up, I can hear some low static noise, which disappears when I unplug the speakers from my computers.
I have tried downloading sounddrivers from my motherboards website, aswell with the newest realtek drivers from realteks website, but nothing is working.
I have no idea what to do, I haven't been able to find any solutions by searching on google. I've tried various things such as restarting Windows audio service, downloading drivers and using window's own troubleshooting.

My first step would be to uninstall the Realtek audio in Device Manager then reboot and let it re-install. What version driver are you using? There is a new one released today.

Some (but not all) experienced sound problems after upgrading from Win 8 to Win 8.1. In most cases, installing a Win 8.1 specific sound driver fixed the problem.

Download and install the newest VR2.78, as popeye noted, and see if that helps. Be sure to download the 64 bit OS version.
Realtek

Proper installation of the Realtek drivers, it will first uninstall the existing driver, have you restart the PC and after Windows starts, Windows will detect no driver and install the generic High Definition Audio driver but after that the Realtek install program will resume and install the new R2.78 driver, and then have you restart the PC again. After the restart, check the audio for operation.

Hi Popeye.

I've tried both the R2.77 and the newest R2.78 driver, but neither of them does anything, there's still only static noise. I've also tried completely removing the driver in device manager, and restarting, but the system defualt driver does the same thing. I'm currently running the R2.78.

Hello.
That windows 8.1 specific driver you speak of, where do I find that? I've only used the drivers from realtek.com, but they are supposed to be compatible with all systems from vista and up. It mentions Windows 8.1, along with these: in the description: 64bits Vista, Windows7, Windows8, Windows8.1, Windows10. I don't know where I'd find drivers specifically for Windows 8.1.

I am installing the drivers correctly, in the way you describe, so that's not the problem.

You mention the "system default driver". Are you referring to the generic Windows installed "High Definition Audio Drivers"?

Yeah, that's the ones I mean. The ones that are there when no other drivers are installed.
My computer is in Danish, as you can see, but I will write the English translation for the important things.

The driver I have selected in the picture above is the generic driver, which you mentioned.

This is the audio playback screen. The first one reads 'speakers', the second reads 'headphones' and the third one mentions 'digital sound'. The rest of the outputs are just HDMI outputs port 0-4.

When I plug my Apple earpods in, it looks like this:

I tried uninstalling my sounddriver again, so currently I have no drivers installed. I will try installing the R2.78 driver again, and upload a screenshot of my devicemanager with those, so you can see how that looks. Also I'm not quite sure what you mean with a picture of the sound section?

The reason the speakers weren't set as default was because I didn't have any speakers plugged in in the first picture. As you see in the other two pictures it's the headset/speakers that are set as default when I have my earpods plugged in. There's no sound either way. The thing is though, that when I turn on some music etc. I can see on the equalizer that it's playing the music, even though theres no sound.

That is usually because the wrong playback device is selected. Sometimes its a Windows corruption.

To correct any Windows/Sound corruptions, go to the Device manager, RIGHT click on the entry for the Realtek sound and then LEFT click "Uninstall". DO NOT uninstall the driver. Then restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the sound.

Alright, I have tried doing that now, but unfortunately it didn't fix the problem :( The only thing different that I see, is that the two Nvidia drivers I had (the ones you see in post #7 and #8) are gone now, and have been replaced by this driver:

The NVIDIA drivers are for HDMI audio only. If you use HDMI audio you will have to reinstall the NVIDIA Video drivers to get that back.

I don't know why the Digital Output is listed. I have never seen that.

The only suggestion I can offer is to start over by installing Windows. I don't like to suggest reinstalls but it is something to consider.

Ah, alright, my bad. I did uninstall the right one (I just tried doing it again to make sure), but it didn't make a difference. I must've accidently taken a screenshot of the wrong section.

Well, I guess since it didn't work, the only option left is to reinstall Windows... Thanks for the help anyhow, I appreciate it :)
