New Laptop 99% Disk ~50% Memory at all times

I've just purchased this stupid piece of junk and it's always at 99% disk, which makes it run like, well, a stupid piece of junk. It has decent specs (it's an asus tp550ld, with i7-4500U, and 8 gb of 1600 MHz ram, and a GeForce 820m), but struggles to do the simplest of tasks, such as opening new pages on browsing tabs, and even typing this out right now is a bit laggy. I bought this thing to play the odd game or two when I'm away from my desktop, but that's not really fun when you're on the lowest settings of Starcraft II and you're at 5 fps (notebookcheck.net says I should be getting 68.9 on medium)

I've tried:

Uninstalling AVG
Disabling auto updates
Virus/malware check

I've considered trying:

Ripping this OS off of here and loading my own Win 8. It doesn't seem to have a bunch of bloatware on it but I don't know. I'd rather not do this as I spent a few hours setting this up/installing a few games last night.

Thanks for any help!

You need to use SysInternals Process Explorer, to find the sub-process that is the problem. Process Explorer

I'm not entirely sure what just happened, but as soon as I downloaded this thing my Disk went back to 0-5%. It was almost as if it was afraid of being found -_-

Thanks for the help that I'm sure you would've provided though. Do you have any theories as to why this went back to normal after ~10 hours of being 99%?

I'll keep an eye on it.

Do you have WMP set to share files over the network? Sometimes this can cause it to scan the HD endlessly looking for media files to catalog. The other likely culprit is file indexing.

I've disabled both WMP network sharing and Windows search, hopefully that prevents this from happening again.

Cheers guys, thanks

EDIT: Uh, after a reboot it came back. This time it's not staying consistently at 99% though, but rather jumping up there and coming back down, then going back up.

What should I be looking for in process explorer?

EDIT 2:
I tried playing Starcraft II and received an error message stating "your computer is low on memory. to restore enough memory for programs to work correctly, save your files and then close or restart all open programs."

Is the HD an SSD? Maybe the deleted file cleanup or Trim isn't working right.

No, unfortunately it's just an HDD. I wanted to get one that was an SSD/HDD hybrid but I just couldn't find one that had everything I wanted.
