Network Usage app show false data

Win 8.1/64 with all the latest fisxes, I am on a slow satellite internet connection (Starband) and do almost all our downloading from midnight to 6 am because that window does not count against our bandwidth usage. Last night I downloaded about 450mb between midnight and 6 am and the network usage app reported zero usage between midnight and 6 am but reported it all in the 6am window which is a problem for me. This showed at 6:04 am which makes it physically impossible.
Yesterday I did the registry hack to remove the 20% system reserved bandwidth in order to speed up the network and wonder if this could of had an impact on the false recording?
All suggestions appreciated.

Network usage not shown

I also recently set my wifi connection to a metered connection to save bandwidth and wondering if that can cause the weirdness with the Network Usage app. Now the network app only flashes briefly and disappears when started. Did an uninstall and reinstalled from app store and the same weirdness occurs where if just flashes briefly when selected then goes away. Also when I click on estimated usage or reset under my network icon in settings nothing happens. The registry key for viewing network usage is 1.

What is this metering app that you are using? Some of them require third party products, to properly run. Here is a list of some. Free Bandwidth Monitoring Tools for Windows 8 | 7 Of course the easiest way is to just use the one built into Task Manager.

The app from the windows store is named Network Usage and I just found the problem. I had followed a list of recommended services to shut off in order to cut bandwidth usage with 8.1 and one of them resulted in Network Usage app just flashing briefly with no error message. Working fine now after starting the list of services. I also took your recommendation and used the Task manager app and between that and resource manager available at the bottom of the task manager panel there is about everything you want to know about your network performance. The app history tab of Task manager is also an excellent tool to see which apps are sucking up your bandwidth.

Uninstall the app you downloaded from Microsoft's store. For one, they do not police them very well to make sure they actually work. Two Microsoft does not do a good job to make sure that the apps hosted in their store, do not send private information back to the party that wrote the app.

Just use the information in Task Manager. No need for some third party app, that only works in Metro.
