How to download and clean install Windows 8.1 if you have an OEM computer with UEFI firmware (BIOS) embedded Windows 8/8.1 product key.

Amazing! Thank you so much genet! I couldn't get any ISO's to recognize that the BIOS had my key on my Lenovo. This worked flawlessly.

I'm having major problems with an Windows 8 x64 Std Acer V5 that's crashed.... Feeling smug, I made a windows recovery usb from another pc and dug out my recovery DVD disks - great or so I thought. I now find that as my recovery image disks were created in Windows 8 x64 std I cannot restore my laptop and to make things worse as the usb recovery is from a Windows 8.1 x64 Std computer Acer now want £50 ($75~) to send me a copy of Windows 8 std. Does anyone have a recovery USB image available - I have a copy of my bios embedded key so I don't need any keys. Basicaly I now have an unusable laptop with a set of useless recovery disks - I feel like chucking the damned laptop in the bin as I begrudge paying $75 to get back an OS I have already paid to use especially with Windows 10 arriving this year. I've looked everywhere for a Windows 8 x64 OEM iso but can find nothing on the net. Has anyone else had this kind of problem and if so, how did you get a resolution?

How to download and clean install Windows 8.1 if you have an OEM computer with UEFI firmware (BIOS) embedded Windows 8/8.1 product key.

Note: This Windows 8.1 installation media accepts Windows 8/8.1 product keys, both OEM and retail (for example, "Windows 8 Pro $15/$40 Upgrade Offer" product key).

1. Create installation media for Windows 8.1

Code:
powershell "(Get-WmiObject -query ‘select * from SoftwareLicensingService’).OA3xOriginalProductKey"

I can't use this guide because Windows Installation Media Creation Tool can't download anything.

I'm stuck at 0%, and it has been at 0% for an hour now.

Yes, i have specifically selected mediacreationtool.exe in my firewall settings to "allow" anything inbound and outbound.

Anyone know why this happens?

i was unaware that by making partitions in my ideapad z500 it will destroy the one key recovery. i made partitions in my hdd and my OKR was gone. After a while my windows start chrashing i guess it was some problem in registry. i formatted my system and with the help of rufus(which made my usb UFEI) i was able to install windows 8 from a pirated iso i got from my friend, but in the process i had to format OEM AND MSR partitions which were factory made. know when i try activating it, it wont ask me about the key(i had noted down the key of my windows before formatting it thanks to bellarch) and also the product id mentioned is not the same as it was earlier. i tried downloading windows 8 from microsoft website but when i provide the product key again it wont download. please seek help i can make my windows genuine.

Sadly I downloaded this and on both machines it says that the disk doesnt contain windows images for the keys. One is a dell and one is a toshiba. It wont pull the code from the motherboard so I had to use a tool and write it down seperate.

If your talking about the Media Creation Tool, the version you download has to match the version that was installed by the OEM. If you install Pro and it shipped with Core, you be prompted to enter a key. Same deal if it shipped with Pro and you install Core. Single Language is another version with its own key. If your being prompted to enter a key your installing the wrong version.

Its regular core. This has even been confirmed with microsoft on the phone that the key is a valid windows 7 core oem key.

I do agree with you guys tho that it should pickup the key from the bios, it has worked perfect for a long time for me. But now im starting to see alot of these brand new machines it wont work on anymore. One of these 2 machines is only a few weeks old.

I wish I knew why they do this also. Ive used those same disks on many many machines at my shop. Before it was one in maybe 50 that wouldnt work but that would usually turn out to be that the motherboard was replaced under warranty and it didnt have a bios code saved.
