Something that has been bugging the hell out of me, since Vista, is that the old XP file explorer was replaced with the new Libraries opening window. That's fine, but why the hell does Computer have to be all the way to the bottom.

Ya if I was a novice user I might be inclined to use those folders more frequently, but as an IT guru, this is nuts. If I download, move, or copy anything to an external hard drive, USB, or DVD, I always have scroll down the Navigation Pane. This is such a little thing that it's almost stupid that you can't slide these categories up and down. This way users can set their most used categories to the top. If you can move columns back and forth, it makes no sense that you cant do it for the nav pane.

I know I can make a shortcut pointing the file location to %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /E,::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D} will allow me to create the Computer shortcut which can be use to pin to the taskbar. I've seen 3rd party software bring back the old XP explorer nav pane and I've also seen one that either adds or hides the Navigation Pane items.

It really is silly not to add something like this that is so simple to do for Microsoft. But does anyone know if there's any registry entry I can use, or some 3rd party software that does this for Windows 8?

Hi Bad,

Welcome to the "Eight Forums." . . .

Try this; close all the folders above "Computer" then open "Computer" then close Explorer (file manger). Now reopen and everything should be the way you want it. Did this several times to see if any would change and it didn't. This worked for me, albeit it doesn't mean it is the answer you are looking for. . .Good Luck.

Hope to see you around the Eight Forums again an IT guru is always a big plus and the Eights.

I have a similar situation, I completely agree Bad123Boy... I dont get why I can put the Computer uptop, ahead of Favorites (i have a long list), i never use Libraries or Homegroup or network. I understand what you mean though, Lee.. But still it would be nice to rearrange the order on the left panel so you dont have to constantly scroll down.

Thank you for taking your time to do the screen shot, and post on here, that is exactly what I meant but without having go through adding it to favorites. Of course that works your way, and I will use it. But wouldn't it just be a simple piece of logical code for Microsoft to say, hey maybe the user might want favorites at the bottom, and computer at the top, or how about letting the user have the option to decide for themselves by being able to drop and drop the order of the top tiers. you know?

Anyways I appreciate your help, and this did solve my dilemma, so Thank you! :)

Ya I guess that's one way to do it. It's just so weird to me though right? Ehh, I guess that works for me. I guess I just have to make more endless shortcuts to windows 8, lol.

Just don't forget, "It's Windows 8, and it was my idea". It's exactly customized how you would want it and if not....well...then it was likely a bad idea anyway and you would be better off just moving on.
