I have only been using it a few minutes - it is already infuriating.

How do they expect people to navigate around without some kind of start menu.

Getting rid of it is complete lunacy.

For those people who only want to do the things you could do on a phone - it is ok.

For the rest of us - it is bloody awkward and inconvenient.

I have tried to get something going - not working pefectly by any means - but at least I can get about. I even managed to fix the boot files on my other HD - after faffing about trying to get cmd to run as admin.

If someone knows how to turn off UAC from within wcp -let me know.

I haven't got the energy to hunt about thru all those metro things - getting stuck in full screens where the only apparent way out is ctrl+alt+del.

In the screenie you can see all those things under the start orb - any way of shoving them over to the right?

Why cant you exit apps without using task manager? This is crazy! This is in no way making production easier. How are you supposed to use say Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Word and Outlook all at the same time? I think MS may have dropped the ball on this one.
I will give it some time but it in no way blew me away as Windows 7 did at this stage. Thumbs down

According to MS you don't need to close apps any more. I'm assuming the OS now manages this, just like on an Android device. You can still close them if you really want to, but you don't have to.

Just click in the lower left of the screen (start menu). Then you can click on where you want to go next. This boils down to the same number of clicks as closing an app and clicking on where you want to go. Once you use it for a bit it makes more sense.

I see it the same way. With Win7 Beta I was operating whenever possible and after a while I deleted my Vista.

With Win8 I tinker a bit when I have really nothing else to do. It is not a system that attracts me. It does not even make me curious.

Ok Cheers I will give it 2 weeks and if I havnt got the bug by then I may have to go linux or OSX. This is why there should be Leaks so MS can listen to us handsome frog about the OS and take our feedback onboard.

Would be nice. But as I know the Operating System developers (and I was one for 35 years), our well meant suggestions land in the bin. They have completely different cats to groom and our priorities are not their priorities.

Just press your windows key and you will pause the program and open the start screen at the same time, you can then select another program to run.
To open the one you closed first just moove your cursor to the far left and a list of paused apps apear, then click on the one you want to restart.

How to turn off action center: (I'm telling you how to disable it, allow or deny...) right click the action center flag almost next to your clock in the taskbar and select: Open acton center (clicking on it, allow or deny...) then click on the "change user account control settings" in the left side of the window. Then you should have something like this (posting picture allow or deny...)

This is the action center flag.

Rightclick and select...

This windows opens, click this...

Aaand... slide that slider all the way down (disabling UAC, allow or deny...)

That actually works on W7 too. Hope it helps :)

So far ...

The Good. :)

I used the VHD install method that I used for the DP and there were no problems (as long as you remember to "Unblock" the PowerShell script).
http://www.eightforums.com/virtuali...-software-install-windows-8-dp.html#post62777

It located all of my Windows installations (including the VHD W8 DP).

The Bad.

So far:
  • Can't change font type.
  • Can't adjust font size (not dpi setting).
  • Can't set "Folder Templates".
  • Restarting/Shutting Down/Sleeping is painful (extra layer to battle with).
  • "Help" keeps getting worse (with every new OS version).
  • FF display glitches (same as DP - could be Mozilla's fault).
  • The DP found drivers for my USB and Sound, but CP can't.
  • 5 Updates as soon as I intalled it!

Does the "Start Menu" hack still work?

1.
Start
write "cmd"
ctrl+shift+enter/click

This will open cmd with admin privileges.

2.
right click lower left bottom.
Screenshot (2).png

3. You don't need to close metro apps.
Just press start/click left bottom/left top to leave them.
And it will get suspended after some time.

If you really want to close it without task manager:
Click it's top and move it to the bottom. (like throwing it to the bottom)
