My external hard drive might have been formated.

Hello! I have a external hard drive that has 1500gt space. I got a new mobo and then my friend told me to boot on the disk
that came with the motherboard. Although im pretty sure i was not supposed to boot on the disk and just run it in windows instead.
Well my external hard drive were connected to the computer when i did so and when i booted to the cd it told me that it is going to
erase all the data on the disk. I were little afraid but then accepted and it went through the process in under a second.(notice that the external hard drive had 500gt used on it) Then beacuse my windows does not work(see my other threat for more information) i booted to linux. The external hard drive seemed like there was only 2folders on it and few files. They seemed like driver files to me. Well then i got scared and disconnected the ext. hard drive and connected it to my windows laptop. Laptop did not recognize the ext. hard drive anymore... I called to a support and they suspected it being a driver problem. So im asking you that what do you think? Driver problem or something else? Also could someone tell me what is "Flashing" or "instant flash" in bios. Because that is one thing i did and i don't know what it was and if someone could tell me that does that affect. Thanks!

"Flashing" or "instant flash" in bios, is writing new low level OS that resides in BIOS chip on the MB and is a connection between hardware and operating system, don't touch that unless you know what you are doing for it can "Brick" your computer totally.
"the disk that came with the motherboard" ???? what disk is that, Operating system ? windows ??. Usually those are just disks with drivers and utilities, not OS.

The disk said it were only drivers... But the instant flash was a thing i did but it seemed to change nothing anywere, although not sure if affected the ext hardware, is that possible? Or does it only affect the mb or inside parts?

just the parts on MB. Updating BIOS had nothing to do with HDD formatting, must have been some other program to do that. So, do you have windows installed?

Yes i do have windows installed. Although as i said in my other threat, it is no longer working(because of the new MB)
Im pretty sure it is not even formated and it is only driver problem. because there were 500gt used and im pretty sure that windows nor
bios can format that in under a second. Or can the bios do that? If can please let me know. But what do you think? Could it been formated or not? That is the question and also how it could have been if it have been. Hopefully my reply makes some sense and you get the point.

No, BIOS can't do that and especially not that fast, not even a small SSD. It's still not clear if windows is working on that computer or not. That has to be addressed first without that other disk being connected.

The short answer is: No

Because i can't access it but i already made a threat about that so that is solved.

So, you are waiting to get windows install disk ?

Yep, im going to get one next week. Also also also.. The guy we called in the support said that that
ext. hard drive is only supposed to work on win xp and win vista. But it worked in win8. I think that is because
the old windows(we bought an update)left the drivers to somehow work in the win8. Is this possible?

There are no drivers for particular hard drives, just controllers on MB or USB controllers if that's the interface.

It is connected trough usb. And the guy in tje support said that it might be with drivers.
