Most members online?

 :dinesh: Only 195,000 to go to catch SF

If Windows 8 was more Desktop friendly and customizable we probably would have 10 to 15 thousand members by now.

I was watching the counter yesterday witnessing only 4 new members joining hoping for the magic 5 K then.

Yeah, I don't think Windows 8 is going to be any where near as popular as Windows 7 unless MS does something about the desktop issue.

According to this article from PCWorld:

Microsoft to Retire Windows Live Brand Ahead of Windows 8 Launch | PCWorld Business Center

Microsoft has in mind combining access to "Cloud" services, by making the user interface identical whether via a phone, ipad, tablet, or laptop/PC.

For example if you like to share family pictures with relatives, store the pictures in the cloud and share them with what ever device is at hand. Sounds fine for those who are consumers of all the newest electronic devices.

I still have problems storing my computer data (personal and otherwise) in the cloud and freely permitting the transfer of ownership of that data to persons unknown for purposes unknown. Until there is real ownership security established, I have no intention of going there.

I also cannot afford all the new phones and ipads and computers to play with. Therefore I loose interest in Windows 8 quickly. Now if Windows 8 is capable of running on older P3 based computers, then my interest is peaked!!

Cheers!
Robert

<yawn>
Can anyone be surprised at this?
It's been obvious since the dawn of creation (sorry - Office 365) that this was MS's target - the ultimate in subscriptions services.
Windows By Subscription .. WBS... ((tm)) Windows 9 will be based in the cloud, and you'll have to pay extra for PC function.

I'm with you there Robert, it's going to take something special to get me away from Windows 7. I saw an article along the lines of yours yesterday but can't remember now where I saw it, unless it was in my Windows Secrets newsletter.
I don't feel that comfortable putting my stuff on the cloud where I don't have complete control over it and like you I can't afford to keep up with the new technology my Smartphone isn't the latest even though I've not long bought it, only because it was on sale because the newest one was getting ready for launch.

Congrats to all on the 5k

There are a lot of people that have no problem staying with the same OS for 4-10 years, if it works for them then there is no reason to upgrade. They don't see a reason to spend money for the upgrade, can't blame them for that.

I like to explore the new OS when they come out. Using Win8 as my main for a while now and have grown to like it.

Having the choice is the important thing.

Just wish MS would have listened to our input before getting ready to market this piece of crap.
They sure aren't going to get my money. JMHO
