Minor but annoying problem with search

Upgraded from OEM 8.0 to 8.1 on my HP laptop (DM1-4310nr) without incident. The only problem is with everywhere search from the Start screen/Charms bar. I get results I should get for settings but when I click on the search result I get no response! I can click on search results for apps, files, or Bing with no problem but when I click on a "settings" result (e.g., Bluetooth settings) - nothing. I have no problem accessing settings from the control panel or the settings menu itself but I really feel I am missing a great feature of windows 8.1 by not being able to access a setting right from the search results.

I have run sfc/ scannow (no problems), run search and indexing troubleshooter, rebuilt the search index - none of these has helped. I am otherwise pretty satisfied with windows 8.1 so it would be great if I could find a fix for this or know that it's not just me and someone else is having this problem

Hi rjkhome,

I can only confirm that your tale of woe is accurate IMHO. The metro search just doesn't work quite right anymore in 8.1 (at least for my purposes). Anyway, I solved my own issue by downloading Classic Shell which allows you to fully customize your search criteria and is accessible from the desktop. So, try it... you might like it.

Classic Shell - Start menu and other Windows enhancements

Good luck.

I can pretty much confirm your tale also. I'm still on Win 8 on this HP 500-056; however, when searching for something, especially settings, they sometimes aren't what I want to see, or do something so obviously different than what I wanted to do that I just back out and take another route. Someone will give me a screen shot, and it just "don't match up".

It's working fine for me as well, I would try running sfc /scannow few times, it seems like some broken system files.
