This is an April Fools' joke, but it's interesting to note that nothing since Vista makes sense.

Let's start with last NT.

Windows NT 4 = 4.00
Windows 2000 = 5.00
Windows XP = 5.1.2600
Windows Server 2003 = 5.2
Windows Vista = 6.0

Here the things started to go out of track !

Windows 7 = 6.1
Windows 8 = 6.2
Windows 8.1 = 6.3

what's next?

Windows 9 = 6.4 or 7.0 ?

Microsoft should change Windows naming scheme ! Windows 2014 maybe ?

Rumor is that Microsoft is already planning on the next update to Windows 8 which is proposed as Windows 8.2 (Green), also which would have kernel 6.4 under it's hood and some new features brought from Windows 9.

When Win 8 was released MS said they were moving to a yearly update instead of Service Packs.

IMHO I think it all depends on what type of device you're using it on. For me its a PITA on a desktop with a keyboard and mouse, I run 7 on that. I'm actually not minding it so much on my laptop with a touchpad that supports gestures. I think it would actually be not to shabby on a tablet. If you hate Metro there isn't much in 8.1 for you except the boot to desktop option. The rest is mostly eye candy. I like what they added and changed, it could still be a lot better though.

I agree. Windows 8.1 will be better than Windows 8, but far form what we were waiting for.

Windows 9 will be Rock Solid
I believe that, but life taught me to be skeptical when the matter is Microsoft !
