Microsoft Office 2013 Customer Preview Released

As Microsoft announced that it will be holding a press conference at Noon, PDT the Web was hit by information regarding the Office 2013 Customer Preview.Microsoft’s Office 2013 reaches its public Consumer Preview milestone today, available for end users to test on Windows 7 and Windows 8 PCs. Microsoft is calling its Office 2013 suite, Office 2013 signals a shift to document collaboration and anywhere any device access. Notably, Microsoft is introducing an on-demand subscription version of Office 2013 that can be streamed from any Windows 7 or Windows 8 PC, with the ability to sync settings and documents. With strong competition from Google Apps and Apple’s iCloud storage and iPad hardware, how does Microsoft plan to keep Office 2013 desktop software and its cloud offerings relevant in a multi device era.

I read a hands on preview. It sounds amazing. I love the idea of taking online content and embedding it onto a word doc. That is brilliant. And editing PDFs and being able to save them as either a doc or PDF. That is also very cool. And I nomally never have to use Office ever. Even right now I don't even have it installed. I just never have to use any of these programs ever. I use notepad lol that's about it. And I rarely download PDFs unless it's a rare book I really want to read. I mean for people that use Office every single day for either work related stuff or for writing and making PDFs or whatever I guess this will be the ultimate thing you may want. For someone like me I just never can find a reason to use it. Office Suits always take up a ton of space. So ya

I am not a professional typist, nor an office worker. But I always play with the latest office suites, as a computer nerd. - But wordpad does it for me.
I do use PDFs a bit, but for that I already have Nitro.

TerryE? Downloading the Office beta will not affect the current version of Office already on your PC. The both will live there in harmony.

Actually shouldn't have any bearing, I'm running them both myself. "2010 & 2013" My install went fine, actually too fine! Weird, would think it would have in the title Microsoft Office Preview 2013, and NOT just Microsoft Office 2013. And no expiration date either. The version 32 -vs- 64 might incur that though. What I would suggest for you to do, is create a restore point before removing Office 2010, and if you don't have any installs left on 2010, contact MS Office, and they will remove your license so that
when you can go back to 2010 after testing is completed. Like you had done with Windows 7.

Interesting about the wording in the title of your version. I got my version from the main Microsoft Office Preview site (yours is from TechNet, if I recall correctly). My version shows "Preview" in the title bar, assuming one can call it that now, as it blends in with the rest of glaringly white "window". That being a misnomer as there is no frame.

Also I can find no mention of an expiration date in the info dialogs. I assume there is one.

Right John, YOU should be able to find an expiration date. Just click on File and then click on Account. Under Product information it would state expiration date. My copy tells me it is registered to myself. This is how we had gotten that information with MS Office 2010. See if yours is telling you it is a register copy as well.

Right John, YOU should be able to find an expiration date. Just click on File and then click on Account. Under Product information it would state expiration date. My copy tells me it is registered to myself. This is how we had gotten that information with MS Office 2010. See if yours is telling you it is a register copy as well.

Well, it took me a while, but I finally found the expiration date. It is June 30, 2013. The date is buried deeply in the Microsoft Sofware License Terms. The product information does not show the software being registered, only activated.

I would say yes, it was because of the bit-ness. Even though I had uninstalled Office 2010 64 bit before installing Office 2013 64 bit I was still prompted to uninstall another program because it was only 32 bit and incompatible. I think it was the Microsoft Access Database Engine, that was installed with Microsoft Streets and Trips.I think that was it, whatever it was I uninstalled it and then Office 2013 64 bit installed fine.

That was with me either. It required me to uninstall 2010 64-bit before installing 2013 32-bit.

So I tried to other machine with clean WRP. But Microsoft refuse to install for second attempt with the same request.
Haven't tried again.

Microsoft Office 2013 Preview: 9/10

I kept MSO 2010 x86 side by side with MSO 2013 Preview x86 in my Windows 7 installation, but every time I switch between them an annoying configuration window appears and took about 3 minutes to conclude. Better let Win7 with MSO 2010 and Win8 with MSO 2013.

Yeah, I'm dual booting with Windows 7 + Office 2007, so I just installed office 2013 by itself in Windows 8. There was no need to run two versions of office on my Windows 8 install.

There shouldn't be a problem running them together on the same computer/Windows. I am running it in Windows XP, Vista, 7, and 8dp. I just added back MSO 2007, so there is now running in harmony MSO 2007, 2010, 2013.

Nothing on my end. I get the standard Word, Excel, Access, and etc. windows. Of course it isn't the same as in other versions of MSO.

Haven't gotten around to installing 2013 yet, was planning to install it beside 2010 and compare for a while.

I finally did a custom install, rather than a default one, and now 2010 and 2013 coexist quite nicely. Took a while to get used to the flat interface and glaring whiteness of 2013, but I do like the new options and graphical previews available now in Word and Excel. I don't use Outlook at home, but did set up a POP account and it seemed to work well. I immediately set the default save to be local rather than the cloud. Not quite comfortable with SkyDrive yet. Maybe sometime in the future...

Yes, I've always been a fan of the ribbon menuing system since I was introduced to it at work in 2007. Seems to be cleaned up a little bit and of course more options.

I tried to install it in Vista, but it came up with a error message saying, I needed a superior operating system. So i went and installed it in win 8 with no problems.

Robin? What is the Service Pack *SP* you have on that Vista install? Should of installed seamlessly in Vista.
