Microsoft moves Outlook.com out of preview

I don't see what Outlook.com has to offer???? I transferred Winmail over from Vista and it works just fine. Outlook seems to give a 'DOS' type screen. Very basic.

Outlook.com actually resembles the style of Windows 8 and it's a lot faster than Hotmail ever was.

One tip here - if you have a hotmail address and want a matching outlook.com email address as an alias, don't delay in claiming it.

If you are xyz@hotmail.com, as I understand it, it doesn't mean that Microsoft have reserved xyz@outlook.com for you. Someone else could come along and claim it first.

Good point, was wondering about that. You would think they would do that, at least for 6 months.

Just got my xyz@hotmail alias xyz@outlook yesterday.

It seems they are trying to move hotmail.com, live.com and msn.com users to the outlook.com service (if not the email addresses).

So I guess xyz@hotmail.com and xyz@live.com could already be two different people, and they can't both have xyz@outlook.com. Therefore I think MS have gone for letting people stick with their old addresses and no special rules on who gets the new @outlook.com addresses.

I have been using outlook.com for several months and I can't say I miss the old Hotmail interface.

It's just too bad that the Metro-style default mail app in Windows 8 doesn't work as nicely.

I used Hotmail for many years as my "public" e-mail address, I moved over to Outlook.com during the beta phase. I can't say I like it better than Hotmail.

Same way I'm still using Outlook 2003 (in Win 7 and Win 8) on my ISP's POP e-mail. It has features that Windows Live Mail does not have.

HI Jack,
I have always used the msn.com for years when it was premium, and now I use it with Outlook which is bundled with Office, and have no intentions of moving to Outlook.com.

I decided to reserve it anyways. They all get forwarded to my gmail account, but I'll probably switch over to using this as my main email account.

I've had the emails about it but so far haven't changed over from my Hotmail addy. I'll have to go and have a look to see if my name is still available. ;)

Hi there
Now gmail integrates nicely with Outlook 2007 / 2010 and even outlook 2013 I've abandoned Hotmail. I might have certain reservations about google for various reasons - but the gmail system works just fine and also syncs nicely with smartphones too.

Cheers
jimbo

I think you may be right. My understanding was that it still works on Windows devices which already have it, but you now can't enable it on a device if it isn't already there.
