Microsoft may bring back full start menu with 8.2

I'll believe it when I see it.

Microsoft may finally bring back full Start menu with Windows 8.2

"The most important change, as Thurrott hears it, is that Microsoft will finally be bringing back the full Start menu to the Windows 8.2 desktop mode. Unlike the current Start button that Microsoft added to Windows 8.1, the new Start menu will be much more like the one Windows users have known and loved since Windows 95. Thurrott also says that the new version of Windows will allow for Metro apps to run as floating windows on the desktop screen, something that users can only do right now if they’ve installed third-party applications such as ModernMix."

The simple fact is, metro was not rejected because it was different... it was rejected because it was lousy... at least in the opinion of very very many customers, or, more precisely would be customers.
Absolutely right. It is unfit for prime time on the desktops.

I play around with it in a virtual partition to prepare for a Win 8.1 tablet - I even made some tutorials in the early days of 8, but I would never run it on my desktop. An OS has to be perfect 'out of the box'. I refuse to install all kinds of little programs to make it fit.

Anybody waiting for something "perfect" is doomed to wait forever, let lone an OS and M$ to boot. I can live without Metro and Start Menu too. If they are there and work OK. but if some of it doesn't, oh well, not going to cry about it, the rest of W 8.1 is working almost to my satisfaction.

I don't even think with tweaking that it's going to magically become good on a desktop. It's just not built for a desktop, it's built for smartphones and tablets. Devices with limited screenspace, large spread out apps (so fingers can press points), and very few apps working together.

you guys are entitled to your Oh - pinions,
but this sacred desktop world you live in is a virus sponge.

Can we object to this absolutism?
I am loving the WinRT start menu and will never use a classic style menu again.

... It's just not built for a desktop

Can we object to this notion that WinRT is designed for phones and tablets ONLY?
Can we object to this view that WinRT has no place on a desktop computer?

I go to all apps, press Ctrl - (minus) and select something.
Or, just press something, and select from a list.
It works very well (on a desktop computer)!

I am also liking start screen tiles better than the old system.
Pin (and unpin) to start is faster than creating shortcuts.
Also, I am not having search issues, I can find anything on the PC by entering something from the start screen.

So this concept that WinRT has no place on the desktop is an invalid assertion.

An option to enable a classic Microsoft start menu is something I am sure the majority would LOVE.
I would never use it. WinRT works well on my desktop.

If you do not want to use tifkam, then don't.
I object to the statement that it has no place on a desktop Personal Computer.

We don't have many options of what to use.
All there is for regular people is NT or UNIX.

Windows 8 , 8.1 is the ultimate OS. It makes everyone happy in one fashion or another.
Some like the Start screen over Start button. Even appreciating learning new ways to customize it.
Some installed a 3rd party Start button alternative and accept it. That makes some happy.
Some installed a 3rd party Start button alternative and even though they have no problem navigating their OS now but, they still love complaining and running MS down. In the end, even the biggest haters love 8 & 8.1
I know who I would vote for title as "Biggest 8 Lover by Hate proxy" A member who has posted more negative news links since I joined in Dec 12 about 8, MS losing sales and the demise of MS.

People still use desktops? I switched to a laptop long ago. I'll never go back, built a water cooled system but now I rather invest the money in a laptop and sacrifice a bit of quality in the graphics settings, I game all the time wherever I want! My point is I can see why some Desktop users are complaining, it doesn't seemed to be targeted for desktops. However, when windows 8 first came out I knew it was going to be way different but I told myself to adapt, no add-on start button or menu, just have discipline and learn the new system and don't look back. I think people just hate change, of course like someone already stated nothing will ever be perfect. I haven't seen anything posted here that windows 8.1 cant do as well as 7 did...well anything I find useful anyway. I am sure these folks that are complaining about productivity on 8 use their pc in ways I don't. As for it being an OS for phones and tablets, I am happy to have both UIs, I enjoy some of the apps only available in the modern UI which otherwise wouldn't be available without the modern UI. Seems MS would do well to make the classic layout optional for these guys, but as an optional download as to not bloat it for those of us who are happy.

I really hope the do bring it back. My wife had a surface (her Christmas present from me) and I don't miss the start button /menu on that. It kind of just works for a device that size but on my desktop and laptop, I use start 8/classic shell all of the time. There is just too many things that are either too difficult or simply impossible to get to without a proper start button
