Microsoft Boxes Apple's Ears With Surface Tablet

You really don't get a sense of just how limited the iPad is until you actually explore the Surface tablet that Microsoft released last week. It is like the designers sat down over beers and argued over every single shortcoming they found in the iPad and then built into Surface just the right features to make the iPad look inadequate.

IMO the advantage of the APPLE warranty IMO is grossly overdone.
At least in W. Europe you always get the manufacturers warranty (usually 12 - 24 months) and all I can say in nearly 40 years or so of buying all sorts of electronic equipment inc computers etc I've NEVER had to return a single piece of kit. - If something has got broken (e.g Disk drives) it's usually my fault --spilling coffee on them or dropping them.
Wife had 2 iPod's which both developed issues. Took 'em to the Apple store and they replaced 'em on the spot.

My Asus tablet developed a problem with the screen. Had to send it to Texas. It's been gone 10 days now. unsure when it will come back.

Logitech Harmony One remote control broke. Fought tooth and nail with them. They finally agreed to ship me another unit to replace the one which quit working.

Ms isn't the dying old Dinosaur that some people think it is.
Unsure of anybody who feels this way.

Really? Solid? I've never had to send out any of my tech gadgets out for repairs and yet both my iPod and iPhone required repairs, they better have far better warranty.
And my company has had at least 20 of our Dell Latitude E6400's crap out and need a new mobo, cpu, heatsink and fan combo replaced.

Sadly their enterprise XRaids and XServes have cost our company $100,000's in downtime costs, but they look real nice!
I've never been in an enterprise which tried to use them in the server room.

Apple makes good products but just because they look pretty doesn't make them better.
Never said they were better, but same make them out to be utter garbage not worth the packaging, and that simply isn't true.

Apple makes good products but just because they look pretty doesn't make them better.

But sometimes being better makes them better. Example: iPod Touch vs Zune HD and iTunes vs Zune software. I owned one of each Zune model before buying my 4th gen iPod Touch two years ago, which was the first Apple product I'd owned since 1992 or so, and the Apple stuff was so much better than the Microsoft stuff it wasn't even funny. I wrote a lot more about that here:

I bought the Kindal Fire when it first arrived then I bought a iPad2 it's nice but I don't like having to deal with both Amazon and the Apple Store and it's iTunes. Bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab2 7" with the micro memory slot it's a great tablet but still it's small screen is not easy to use for me. But the Google store has lots of nice App. So when the new Samsung Galaxy 10.1 notes arived with a larger screen like my iPad2 I bought it. It's been a cool tablet and it also has a micro memory slot. This on both the 7" Tab2 and 10.1 note allows a lot of my music and pictures also a few of my home made videos to be installed. To me this beats having to deal with Amazon or Apple. I like Microsoft and look forward to their Surface and the Microsoft RT O.S.

I'm fairly impressed by the Surface RT. I assumed it was going to be a piece of garbage compared to the Surface pro, but reviews since it launched got me considering picking one up until more windows 8 hybrids become available. Ultimately decided against it, but it seems quite a lot more functional as a travel meets productivity machine than my mom's ipad does.

Why are most of the people I know who carry ipads around religiously over 55? I mean, there was a woman at my wedding holding up an ipad to take photos -- hello, your smart phone probably has a better camera than that. (never mind what it did to my professional photos -- stupid black I pad always in front of my guest's face, or blocking other guests faces. My husband thinks wedding photos with guests holding up ipads will be like a kind of carbon dating fifty years from now... I say why wait.)

Your mom's iPad ( and mine) as GPS, useful on travel, last summer I have a lot of peoples in my way taking Picture with iPad or phones , I simply say SCuse me , and when they turn and look at me, they give me the way .... Barry White and size matter in those time...lol ,

It's certainly true that Surface misses the mark on some issues -- no gps and no 3g//4g. Sigh. Actually, I can't think of any 3g/4g windows 8 devices... I wonder if 8 drinks up bandwith or something.

Lack of a cellular data connection is definitely a stumbling block for me. I travel a lot and it's great to be able to fly into jack anybody airport and pop a sim card into my device of choice -- I may not have anyone to call when I arrive, but I've got plenty of people to e-mail, skype, etc. I guess one will have to use their phone as a mobile hot spot with windows 8

From what I can see , Surface was rush on the market, last spring they was talking of a WINTEL, a tablet build by Intel in association with Microsoft.. and next news we get was the Surface. What happen to the Wintel. I think MS turn back at the last moment and rush the Surface on the market. That's not facts, just my 2 cents
