for the last few hours I keep having the computer put a message on the screen that says there has been a problem and the pc need to shut down/or restart but it will restart the pc for me. the first time the pc just shut down with no warning. any body got any ideas what this could be.

more information. when it counts to 100 before it shuts down the pc, at the bottom, it has the following message:
you can go to the following web site later and get more information on this problem

www.kernel-security-check-failure.com but i'm a little concerned about going to this website since i'm worried about a virus. but this started right after my last windows update to. has anybody ever heard of this website before or experienced the same problems with their pc?

the only other pc I have is a xp computer, but it's not set up to go on line. but how do I "boot" the software on the other pc? do I upload it from here (the defender web site) first. and how do I boot the 8.1 for this pc for the off line scan.

i'll be using a usb hard drive. or what ever it's called. and how do I sane the thing to the usb. I can't find a way to put the hardware on the usb.

As far as I know just before the PC POST completes when you hear a beep, there is a key you can press
to put up a boot menu which enables you to choose the boot device. On my PC it's f12.
Have your prepared CD containing the offline anti virus in the drive and select it from the menu,
then follow the instructions as it boots up

Go to the link I gave, it tells you how to create the media

it says it is being blocked because of a PUP (i think that is how it was spelled) and it said i should not go any further and to go back.

so what is a PUP anyway?
