Hello everyone,

When ever I click a mailto link in either Chrome, IE, Firefox and Opera it opens up a new chrome browser window. Before I installed windows 8 I had it opening up Outlook 2010 new email, now it opens up a new Chrome browser window.

How do I change it in windows 8 to when I click a link in any browser to open up Outlook 2010 new email as it did before?

Thank you for your help.

Hello MrJe, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Double check to make sure that Outlook is set as the default program for all of it's associations. Specifically the mailto protocol.

http://www.eightforums.com/tutorial...ms-set-your-default-programs-windows-8-a.html

Hope this helps, :)
Shawn

Hi Shawn,

Thank you very much for the response and for the welcome. I am happy to be apart.

I did set Outlook to be default for all, but I didn't check to see if all were selected at the time. So, when I actually looked at what Outlook was set to there it was the mailto was unchecked. Everything is working now.

Thank you very much for your help.

You're most welcome. I'm happy to hear that you got it sorted. :)

It looks like you have Google Chrome browser installed. This could have set it to be the default program if you clicked on yes when it asked (if turned on in Chrome) if you wanted to make Chrome the default program whenever you open it. This could also be something to look at to make sure you don't lose Outlook as the default program.

Hi Brink, don't know if i'm right on continuing this old thread, but i didn't want to open another for a similar issue:

So i solved the same problem here by selecting the mailto default back to outlook again.

As long as chrome and i have tricked with some settings now i have a strange behaviour in outlook that i would like to check with you:

With Outlook 2013 if i click on a hyperlink wich is am email address like example@test.it (not a mailto, that works), nothing happens; i remember with my old winxp and outlook 2007 that it opens a new message or try to open the browser.

Is this normal or i have something screwed up? How can i tell to open that link with a new message like mailto?

Hello powerdrome,

That's what my "MAILTO" is set with as well.

You should be able to right click on the email address, and click on "E-mail with ...." to do so.

When you right click on and email address in Outlook 2012 and click on "Open Hyperlink", it should open an Outlook new message window with the address in the "To" field.

What I posted was for if you right clicked on an email address in Internet Explorer.

Well, I suppose that you could copy the address, and paste it in a new mail message "To" box if needed. :(

A related question. Outlook 2013 is my default mailto: program. When I click on such a link in Firefox it opens up Outlook in the create new mail screen with the recipients email address filled in. This is fine.

The problem that I am having, which seems to be intended based on what I've been reading, is that when I click send all Outlook does is move my email to the Outbox and closes. It does not send the email. It's not until I run Outlook again that the email is sent from the outbox.

Creating an email from scratch let's me send without closing Outlook. Why does a mailto: link behave the way it does? Someone suggested this was a security measure. I really don't see how since I have to click on send.

I would like a mailto: email message to behave just like one I created myself. Any ideas on this?
