Love W8

I am really loving the change, everything is quicker and works well.

I have seen a number of comments that W8 is another Vista, I never had any problems with Vista, I Networked
three PC's with 1 Vista and 2 XP PC's, I could not manage that with W7 (W7 to 2 XP).

In my opinion Vista got a lot of bad rep from IT pros because the security controls meant they had to learn how to do it right.

Either way, thanks MS, W8 is clever stuff, just a warning to MS, stop trying to automate everything, if I wanted that I would have bought a MAC (which I did, but sold it because it wouldn't let me do my own thing).

Cheers

There's a lot of hate for it over on the SevenForums, but when you debate it with most of them, it becomes clear they haven't really given it a try. I have it on my ultrabook right now, and I'm quite pleased with it, and it's responsiveness.

Windows 8 is the best yet from MS. Fast -> Fluid -> Stable -> More secure.

I'm loving the Start Screen for quick access and at-a-glance info.

To sum 8 up in one word -> Ingenious! :)

I find too many people hating Windows 8 based solely on the looks, without even trying it.

I've been incredibly happy using Windows 8 ever since the Developer Preview.

I've played with Windows 8 for a number of hours. I obtained it because I was buying a laptop for my wife for Christmas and Windows 8 64-bit was the least expensive option given the same hardware, and I wanted to try it out. I've been getting it all set up. She uses just the basic stuff (LibreOffice, Firefox, Thunderbird). She also likes to keep a couple of documents on the desktop as templates she uses for some administrative tasks.

The Metro UI didn't lend itself to her workflow, so I put Start8 in and set it up for what she is familiar with. When she finally gets it and has had a go at it, she can start playing with Metro and see if she finds it helpful for her workflow. I personally saw now advantage, other than just to have something "different", and I didn't see a way to have a one-click access to a document template from Metro (I didn't actually try to pin a doc shortcut to Metro Start, maybe possible?).

The programs I installed all worked. I had to install Windows 7 versions of my printer drivers since Windows 8 versions didn't exist. Luckily they worked (not everyone has had such luck depending upon the printer). And, luckily, the apps I installed are acceptable to Windows 8. Not everyone's had luck there either from what I've read on the forum.

My personal laptop is Windows 7 and I use some specialized programs and USB devices. After reading trouble some users have had due to lack of Windows 8 support for certain programs and devices, I've decided that I don't want Windows 8 for now. And, as I mentioned, I really have not found any user benefit to the new user interface, especially with keyboard and mouse. New is always more interesting, but the novelty wears off at some point and you have to get back to doing your work.

I don't "hate" Windows 8, and I don't "hate" Microsoft. I'm just not falling all over myself for a new user interface that doesn't help me, and a new OS version that doesn't necessarily support the things Windows 7 did. Disagreement and lack of desire are not "hate".

From what I have read Microsoft designed Windows 8 to be a more secure than any of the previous OS's. This is the main reason I have spent the time and effort learning how to run 8 on my PC, rather than simply staying with 7. Also, the $40 upgrade cost was more reasonable than any other OS I have ever purchased from Microsoft, so I figured it was worth a try. And now, I am glad that I did. :D

I love it on my laptop. I have a really great synaptics trackpad that supports all of the gestures.
I still like it on my desktop, but my Logitech k400's built in trackpad is a piece of cræp.

I have tried it - don't like it.

I don't think it is true that most who don't like it haven't tried it.

It seems some of those who do like it cannot accept that many don't.

Strange.

How long have you tried it, and what was the extent of you trying it?

Yes, I will have this discussion.

Well I'm on day three (or is it four) and I am an even bigger fan. I am totally impressed

One thing MS may consider is XP Mode for those of us with good hardware that the manufacturer
did not see fit to create a x64 driver for, like my LiDE 80 scanner, best scanner ever but no x64 Driver
so I had to use Virtual Box, in W7 I used XP mode, now MS is making me use someone else's software.

Well, I've only had it on my desktop for two days and I like it so far.
Some quirky new things but that's always how it goes.
Some learning necessary, but that's why I have joined this forum today!

I've had it since launch. I'm in the process of copying my files so I can reinstall Windows 7. A bunch of little problems with Windows has me throwing in the towel. It is absurd the amount of time I've spent trying to get this OS to behave the way I want it to. The janky permission system, the wasted screen space, Chrome getting all slow, a metro and desktop browser to be all confusing, system settings in both metro mode and desktop mode. The whole experience is disjointed and unpleasant. I've given it a fair shot but tonight drove me over the edge. Can't wait to get back to W7.

Windows 8 Is Just Awesome , UI Is Good Too . I Wonder Why People Want The Start Button ? It Really Does Not Matter To Me though . :p

Loving windows 8... Haven't used metro UI to much though seems I can do everything I want in desktop mode. Even my school work (going for computer science/ networking degree) so far no disadvantages I also like the toned down look of 8. I was never a fan of the glassy shiny look MS went too for a while. All my drivers worked right away, awesome support for multiple monitors. No need for desktop fusion anymore.

Daniel what do you need a scanner for in this day and age of digital cameras, and scan printers for?
Hi

To scan old photos, slides, docs.

I have a Multifunctional printer/scanner/fax where I can scan docs to file but for real quality the LiDE80 and Vuescan are, in my opinion, the best by far.

Cheers

I installed windows 7 a few days ago and missed not having the all apps screen. Thought that day would never of happened. Another reason i come back is wddm 1.2 vs 1.1. Auto scrolling in firefox the text looks much cleaner in win 8 to me. It does feel disjointed having different options requiring navigation from start or desktop. I would rather see metro popup on top desktop that can be minimized and re-sized. Once I got organized, windows 8 any day.
