I am looking to replace an old Linksys BEFSR81 ver 3.1 Wired Router.

I have searched through the forums here and have found some information that isn't quite was I was looking for. So I thought I would start a new thread, and ask this fantastic community that has been so helpful with suggestions, assistance and opinions in the past. I have always used a wired router, and I've been a bit hesitant to go the wireless "route" - but I believe from what I've been told recently, that routers basically are ALL wireless now, but come with the ability to be both wired and wireless. (?)

  • I spend a lot of time playing online games, and I also do a fair bit of downloading/file transfers/streaming content.
  • I pay for a 60 Mbps download speed/ 3 Mbps upload speed service from my internet provider.

So I am looking for a router that would be ideal to meet these needs. I have been told that I should look at getting a dual or triple band/frequency wireless router, with the terms gigabit and 1000BASE-TX being mentioned as well. Although I am not to familiar with this new technology and terminology ... so that is why I came here.

Any help with pointing me in the right direction of a type or even brand of router would be much appreciated.

Thank you very much! :)

Go to smallnetbuilder.com. I chose to go with a wired only router and an Access Point that is POE injection capable for my network.

It allows me to expand out my network better.
