i am fairly new to windows 8.1 and am in the process of moving all my folders and files from old computer to new one. i understand that you now look under this pc to see you folders which is called a library. i can see the usual ones- desktop, pictures, downloads, videos, etc. My question is how can i create a new library in this section? any help would be so very helpful. thank you.

Thanks Shawn for the information. I just can't wrap my mind around not being able to make a new catagory. I made dvd's for weddings, memories, graduations etc and on my other computer have a folder that contain all the shows i am currently working on. The program knows to go to Pictures, Videos, or Music to find the content that I have added to the show but by not being able to dupicate the orginal file in the same location it program will not know where to go search for the content. I may have to keep using my old computer. But I do thank you for your assistance and information.

You can create a new library anytime and as often as you like, it's just that they'll only show up under Libraries. :(

It's the same way in Windows 7.

The only thing i can see is This PC. I can see the default folders such as music, pictures, etc. I guess it doesnt matter what it says there since you first stated at this time you can not add any new additions there. thanks once again for all of your help and advice and taking the time to repond. :)

The default folders in "This PC" are only links to the folders in your "C:\Users\(user-name)" folder, and not for libraries.

If you do the tutorial at the top of this page, then it will add the "Libraries" folder in "This PC" so that you will be able to click on it to open and see all of your library folders.

If you do the tutorial below, you could also have Libraries show in your navigation pane.
Once in Libraries, you can create a new library if you like.

Hi Brink, I am sure we have discussed this before, maybe on another thread. Windows has probably through an update, put libraries back in my File Explorer. I have tried a few or the more likely of your .reg files, but don't seem to be able to kill them this time, which i would really like to do. Any ideas?

Hello Jon,

Yeah, the latest Windows Updates have been resetting "This PC" back to default causing everyone to have to reapply their customizations again.

It sounds like you may need to make sure that step 1 is done again as well. It would have to be done before the .reg files would be able to change those registry entries to add Libraries back.
