I hope you will allow me to link to the experts here. It has not been possible to clarify the information with the OS or notebook manufacturer.
Problems using a Lenovo Ideapad s300 primarily for use as a desktop machine prompts the clarification of possible causes and remedies. A link to a previous unsolved post to resolve the problems is documented at [1]. This post attempts to clarify the minimal mouse and touchpad driver requirements. The s300 uses an external display and mouse. The machine performed well, and reliably for approx. the first 7 months until 21.05.2015. After an automatic Windows 8.1 update; it began independently deleting folders, files and Desktop icons on the mouse Left Double-Click in Windows 8.1.
An obvious problem with the installed driver is in Control Panel -> Mouse Properties -> which displayed a "Hardware" tab, but no "Device Settings" tab as in [2]. The touchpad cannot be deactivated. As shown in [1] Device Manager displays no "Mouse" driver conflicts. This suggests a Mouse driver or Touchpad driver problem. The presently installed mouse drivers are shown in Device Manager at [1].
What are the minimal required mouse, keyboard and touchpad drivers for Lenovo Ideapad s300?
Clarification:
1) When is the Touchpad Driver (Synaptics, Elan) for Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit) required?
2) What is the recommended procedure to install the Touchpad Driver (Synaptics, Elan) for Microsoft Windows 8.1 (32-bit, 64-bit)?
3) [3] is a link to the Lenovo Ideapad s300 touchpad driver, is this the correct and recommended driver?
A lot of time was spent googling these troubleshooting measures, including this forum. If the answer is documented please excuse the oversight, and point me to the document.
Thank you very much for your attention and time.
