Hi all I have two lenovos one Is G70 70 When I power on the lights flash but screen remains black I have done the standard test cleaned the Hdd pins Changed the ram after cleaning the pins shined a bright light on the screen. I have even checked the mother board for signs of burnining or scorching of componants I have sent for a new screen because once before on n Hp had a problem the repire said it was the screen. I was wondering if there was some other test I could do Help Please

If you have HDMI, VGA, or an additional video port try connecting a second monitor to your system. If it works it's likely either the laptop display adapter or the display itself is done. If your laptop is worth it, fixing it might be justified but you can get along with using a second display as your new primary (1), the laptop essentially becomes a desktop case.

If you do undertake the display swap yourself, I'm sure you could do it - be patient though. Search Youtube for G70-70 specific examples, watch a few to make sure you're getting everything involved in a display swap, some Youtubers demonstrate a sort of cliff notes version - leave too many steps out.

Good Luck.

Hi thanks for your Reply. I have an Hdmi Cable I used It on My smart tv But got a conflict on the screen saying Sony Brava is attached to your wifi Isolate to use I tried that then the same message came up so I used the other lap top I have and it loggen onto the smart tv right off so I can/t use that I have asked my son who is an hardware consultant for a monitor but he ia at this tme working from hoe so he cant travel up here.

I had a 42 inch Bravia hooked up to my laptop for a while - too big for how close it had to be. I now have a 32 inch Samsung and love it. Neither TV was allowed to connect to the internet, I disabled all the SMART features within the TV settings, simply used it as a PC monitor. If you can get it to work, you'll want to make the TV your primary (1) monitor, and show the desktop only on this monitor. I use both in extended mode for now. It's kinda hard to enjoy anything on a 15 inch screen when I have a 32 inch right next door :)

Can't forget, make sure your laptop can support the recommended resolution and refresh rate that works with the monitor you use otherwise you'll be disappointed... and HDMI is the only port you should settle for in 2020.

If you decide you might want to simply use a new monitor (and not replace the laptop display), it can be handy (for some) to be able to close the laptop lid at times so adjusting the Power Options to do nothing when closing lid is helpful.

Sorry, I always forget to mention... my laptop is always on, it is connected to ac power. I used to put it to sleep when I had an HDD but it isn't necessary now that I have an SSD - runs very quiet and cool. It has been setup like this since 2015, so my particular approach may not be what works for you. I would definitely use ac power though when connected to a big TV otherwise your power saving options might also degrade the experience. I haven't looked in a while but most of my settings are "Give me all this thing can handle", I don't want any power saving, low performance interference, my laptop is already very modest and now almost 5 years old.

Hi thanks for your rely again. I understand about the display settings I always high because I ware glassed need brightness. this s the reason my Tv is always sony they have built in high res settings better than other makes. My son tells me he has shipped an Hitachi 32" monitor it should be with me thursday with look He has also told me my laptop roblem could be the dedicated graphics chip if it is he recomends i sell as spares or us it like you say as a desktop. Again thanks for your advice.

Hi dronie

Wales huh, me, I'm in So Cal. USA... hope all is well with you and yours :) Your son sounds like a nice man, glad you have someone to help you out.

Report back when you have time, let the forum know you got things working OK. I know not having the laptop display is kinda wonky, it would be nice if it was working but you can get along with out it.

Hi all I have decided to break the laptop and sell for spares.I was advised this would be the best option to take.
So I will close this post and thank people who gave me advice.
