Thanks for the links, I had NO IDEA they were even developing a new version. Just got it installed, not much different from 2011 (at least Messenger isn't) except that it has some new features like Video Mail and sharing pictures from online albums. I assumed that I could share pics from the Metro "Photos" app, but it wasn't actually that. Kind of disappointing. Would have made some things much easier.

OMG! Have they moved back to something more akin to the old Windows Movie Maker!? Hated Windows Live MM with a passion for it's terrible user interface, but regular Windows Movie Maker used to be my quick and easy video editor.

Its the same but there were some improvements under the hood.

I updated Mail, Photo Gallery and Movie Maker in both Windows 8 RP and Windows 7 and working fine.

Jim

I guess some programs just got bugfixes and security updates that weren't too critical to be included in Windows Update, while others got new features as well? I seem to remember reading somewhere that the new Movie Maker has an excellent "steadying" filter for shaky video clips. I can't, however, for the life of me, remember where I saw an example of it... Probably MS' website itself.

Just found this I have 16.4.3505.0912 so to update I have to manually download and reinstall. There is no check for updates button or anything to even tell you there is a new version out?

Thanks

Hello Harmik,

You could download the small wlsetup-web.exe (1.18MB) file from the homepage link, then run it to update all your installed Windows Essentials programs to the latest version. :)

Thanks for the reply I will give it a go, so nothing to really tell you that there has been an update. Although I don't think Microsoft are really developing this any more anyway. I might have to get the full version of outlook as I don't think the Modern UI version is good enough yet even in 8.1.

Just did it had to re pin to task bar but all went well cant see anything different but sure they changed something. :)

You're welcome Harmik. I'm happy to hear that you got them updated. :)

Hi there
Will this work on W2012 server - currently there's no built in AV system for it yet - I'm thinking of downloading and playing around with the TechNet version -- I've got an Old W2003 Server which has (and is still doing) sterling service but it's about time to put this one to bed and get something newer.

Fortunately these servers etc are still on TechNet - while the subscriptions are still active.

Cheers
jimbo

Hello Jimbo,

Yep, it sure will. :)

Windows Essentials 2012 Release Notes - Microsoft Windows

What operating system do I need to install Windows Essentials 2012?

Windows Essentials 2012 programs will run on Windows 7 (32-bit or 64-bit versions), Windows 8 (32-bit or 64-bit versions), Windows Server 2008 R2, or Windows Server 2008 with Service Pack 2 and the Platform Update for Windows Server 2008, or Windows Server 2012. Additional installation requirements might be necessary to run Windows Essentials 2012 on Windows Server or N SKUs.

Realizing that Windows Essentials 2012 was designed with Windows 8 in mind, I will ask anyway ........ does it work on 8.1? or should I wait to download it.

Hello Ed,

Yep, Windows Essentials 2012 works just fine in Windows 8.1 as well. :)

New Windows Essentials 16.4.3522.0110 version released. See first post for more details. :)
