Latest Version of Malwarebytes

MBAB 2.1.3.1017 RC 2 is now available through Updates or direct download.

We now have a new RC available, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 2.1.3.1017.

The update should be available to everyone - no slow roll-out this time. (this may be changed later)

If you want the full installer you can grab it here:

Changes from 2.1.2.1016:

  • Fixed more resizing issues when switching languages. Please note that Russian is still a work in progress, so that's the only language that is much wider than it should be for now.
  • We reduced the size of the Add Schedule and Edit Schedule dialogs...for those who had trouble viewing the entire dialog these should at least now be more easily re-positioned.

Exploit Kit authors give up on Malwarebytes users

The combination of Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit and Anti-Malware is extremely effective at stopping both drive-by download and social engineering attacks. It’s nice however, when independent sources, albeit malware authors, confirm it.

The rationale behind not delivering the payloads to anyone running Malwarebytes software is motivated by a lack of return on investment. Knowing that they won’t be able to exploit those machines, cyber criminals would rather avoid wasting their ammo and also not generate unnecessary attention.

Just because exploit authors are choosing to avoid us doesn’t mean that we will avoid them. We are keeping a close eye on their activities and making sure that whatever they are cooking is still being blocked by our software.

And this is why I always recommend people(especially Defender users such as myself) to also install Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit. It doesn't slow browsing down one bit and is the third best layer of protection after Anti-Virus and User.

Agreed Cliff. I use MBAM, MBAE, and Windows Defender in Windows 10.

Hello Dusty,

MBAE hasn't slowed down my laptop or desktop so far. :)

I'm using it on a few computers, and I've not had trouble. I do have a question though... I was using EMET 5.2, and realized there may be some overlap in protection. Do both pretty must do the same thing? I hear Mbae is a bit better than EMET...?

So far I have them both running.

You can run them together, but from what I've read, you might want to adjust their settings is all.

For example I believe EMET doesn't have JAVA protection(do we really need that as a browser add-on still?) protection, and MBAE does.

I was thinking about using EMET a while ago, but I just too lazy to go through all the work it requires to set up and fine tune:o, but I don't really go to any questionable sites, and MBAE is enough in case even a trusted site get's compromised. Any site that uses advertisement services like Google Ads:
Security bod Maarten van Dantzig says a large number of Google ads sold through Bulgarian reseller EngageLab have been pointing users to the dangerous Nuclear exploit kit.
The Fox-IT binary basher found the campaign, which may at the time of writing have been subject to the Choc Factory's boot, could result in a "very large" number of attacks.
Victims could be compromised over Adobe Flash, Java, and Microsoft's lonely orphan Silverlight.
Nuclear exploit kit redirection was first observed overnight targeting Fox-IT customers, van Dantzig says.
"The Fox-IT SOC (security operations centre) has detected a relatively large amount of infections and infection attempts from this exploit kit among our customers [and] we suspect that this malvertising campaign will be of a very large scale," van Dantzig says

In the new version Malwarebytes is enforcing the License on their keys and you may get this window if your key has been identified with a problem. I got this on the first Lifetime key I bought years ago and it had been moved around a lot so I got flagged. I did choice 2 and I now have a new Lifetime key.

The biggest changes in this release are around license enforcement. You'll now see messaging in the product when you're approaching your subscription expiration date.
Also, we're running a new "Amnesty key" program in an attempt to get a handle on the rampant piracy of MBAM keys that exists. If we detect a key during the upgrade to 2.1.7 that is one of the keys that has been identified as being abused, counterfeit, pirated, etc. then the user will be presented with a special screen in the MBAM UI. They'll select one of two options and then be assigned a new key to use going forward. We can't just fully turn off all these keys because there are legitimate users caught up in the mess. (for example, they were victims of unscrupulous resellers who sold them a bad key--this is not the user's fault and we don't want to penalize them) The Amnesty program is purely temporary - maybe a few weeks or so, or however much time we need as we roll out this new version. Then after that it will be shut down and all the bad keys will cease to work. We're not worried about giving pirates a free key - the goal is to stop any further exploitation of all the keys that are out there. This program allows us to get a handle on these issues and lets us track the new keys in our system. The keys will only allow a certain number of activations (depending on whether annual or lifetime) and after that limit is reached no further activations can occur on that key. You may see questions about this in the forum, but legitimate users should simply answer the prompt honestly and they'll be fine. Anyone who see this message WILL get a new key assigned though so they should make a note of it for their records. You'll see below that the key is now visible on the My Account screen.

Is it usual to have 'Duration: Unknown' with a lifetime license?

After a reboot I got the same message as Phone Man.
I also have a new lifetime license now.
