I installed on W7 and W8 and after about an hour, I cannot browse my network. Hangs Windows Explorer. Same symptoms for both W7 and W8. I did an uninstall of previous Avast and installed new. Using Free edition.

Going back now and will wait for first update.

avoid avast internet security if you dont feel like going without your internet access for the two hours it'll take you to figure out you need to grab the uninstaller utility just to remove it, a third hour to figure out how to get the utility onto the affected system, and another half hour to both remove avast internet security and then download/install avast free edition.

I kid you not.. my parents mistakenly upgraded not to the current free edition but to the internet security suite, which killed their internet access on previously known to be good hardware and it took me that long to work out how to remove it.

I am using Avast internet security because it suits what I need in a Security suite, but it may not suit you.
Go to Avast's website and there is a comparison table that you compare the different versions and choose.

Avast 8.0.1482 free is running fine on my Win 7 laptop and Win 8 desktop. One new feature I really like is the SSL email scanning feature. So, now you don't have to manually configure your email client (in Avast) if your service provider requires a secure connection. IMHO, I've tested them all (free versions) and nothing comes close to Avast free. See images below:

Just switched to Avast on Windows 8, have to say I love the small memory footprint and fast scanning.

Comodo Internet Security Premium V6 is the way to go, Free and no advertising or nagging to upgrade!
