I wish I agreed with you, Jimbo, but MS wants to get rid of Windows Defender. Because it costs MS mney to provide online help, it is to their benefit to offer a free anti-virus program, automatically installed on Windows 8. But manufacturers are losing money from AV companies that paid them to put free trial versions of their programs on new computers.
For now, MS has officially announced that ALL computers loaded with Win 8 will have an AV program. Once that AV program is expired or turned off, Defender will automatically turn on. But I predict that Windows 9 will not operate unless an AV program is running, and MS will have abandoned Defender by then.
