Latest Realtek HD Audio Driver Version for Windows 8

OK, let me start over to make sure I am following the procedure correctly.
First I downloaded the version 2.75 EXE file from here: Realtek (as referenced by the first page of this thread with a May 21, 2014 release date).
This installed successfully.
Now, I am unsure what to do next...do I skip the November 13th 2014 update that references the MS Update Catalog and just download Brink's March 4th release .CAB file?

(Just to recap, I am doing all this to hopefully resolve an issue that I described in a separate thread (http://www.eightforums.com/sound-au...eakers-when-ext-mic-connected.html#post486000) which is that when I record external mic audio in the laptop's combo jack, the built-in speakers get disabled so I dont hear playback, but on the other hand when I connect a smartphone headset which has MIC + Phones, the stupid laptop leaves the built-in speakers active instead of sending to the buds that are in my ears. So, I am getting results that are opposite to what one would expect...)

I don't think its a driver issue. It goes back to the type of combo jack and how ASUS has it implemented.

Now when you have Realtek drivers, check "Realtek HD Audio manager" in control panel. In top right corner, in blue letters should be "Device Advanced Settings" and try settings there.

CountMike: I cant see what you are referring to... keep in mind I am now using the Classic View (generic) version of Realtek HD Audio Manager which was installed from the Realtek site as R2.75, so Im not using the Asus laptop specific version aanymore (which is dated 2013!).

Can you further walk me thru? Should I not be attempting to install Brink's latest March update to the official release R2.75?

**ugh, what a weird problem to have...disables my internal speakers when I dont want it to, and keeps them active when I have a smartphone headset plugged in!**

Yes I see the blue icon that says "Realtek HD Audio Manager", but when I click it it opens it but my version does not have any Advanced Settings option or menu.

Blue letters underscored, it's not a tab.

Thanks for the screenshot. i dont have that and I notice your version is a Gigabyte version. I possibly had something similar when I was using my Asus specific version too but I needed to update the drivers to the generic ones in order to be able to just record from the external mic.



What are you able to do under the Advanced Settings? Can you take a screenshot of that please?

It's a Gigabyte MB but driver is generic 2.75. This panel lets me adjust where some sound will play.

For the fun of it, I decided to install the lastest ASUS Notebook audio drivers (not specific to my particular model though because my model's last update is 2013)... so I installed the latest March 2015 drivers from the ASUS site and there was no change... not better, not worse. And the Realtek HD Audio Manager interface was EXACTLY the same... no ASUS logo anywhere, which I thought strange.

I'm on desktops but they also have front and back connectors which would be analog to built in speakers and external ones on a laptop.

Indeed that looks alot like my DESKTOP Asus interface... which is my next one to tackle. I guess Im at a dead end with my laptop.... connect an external mic and lose the built-in speakers. Connect a smartphone headset and lose the earphones but keep the speakers alive. Makes no sense to me.

I think driver just picks up the name of MB because Realtek has only one driver for that whole range of CODEC chips.
What your problem may be is that laptop uses 4 segment jack for sound which incorporates connections for earphones and microphone.

Exactly. My laptop has two jacks, one for headphones, one for microphone. Some have just one jack for both. Takes a plug that must have the separate rings for each device.

OK, now moving on the my desktop with ASUS motherboard. Able to record audio from my Rode SmartLav+ lapel mic when using the Rode SC3 adaptor, which converts it from TRRS to TRS so that it will work on dedicated mic input jack. (on my laptop the adaptor was not necessary...probably because it was a mic/phones combo jack..)

However, now on the desktop setup, I wonder why it is that even with "Mute rear output..." UNCHECKED, plugging headphones in the front panel still kills the audio being routed to the speakers connected to the rear panel?





Even with these settings, the moment I connect headphones to the front phones jack, the speakers connected to the rear output get muted.

Excuse my ignorance but if I go to the link to get this latest Realtek driver and extract the files from the zip can someone tell me where among the huge number of files is the Driver installer please...?

RtlUpd64 ..... 'update and remove for Windows x64 or x86_32' ..... is the only application I can find but trying to run it brings up UAC and then goes nowhere.

I currently have 6.0.1.7404

Hmmmm.... now I'm even more confused.... the link I speak of is at the beginning of this sticky thread by Brink and the driver version is the same format as the one I have showing in my Device manager->Sound-> Realtek HD Audio->properties->Driver



No mention of R2.75.

Actually, it's self extracting archive, could be unpacked with any archiver. It has own folder and may be easier to install from it. In a pinch if setup.exe doesn't do the job, there's .inf file that may let you install driver manually from device manager.
